Editorial Review for Sterling Cafe – by Jill Lightner
The Scene
Spare and elegant, the small room features lovely chandeliers and plenty of dark wood. Still, it has the feel of a simple neighborhood restaurant, equally appropriate for a lunch sandwich or a romantic dinner. Service is speedy and pleasant; expect honest menu suggestions and jovial humor from the whole staff.
The Food
Start with the simple roasted garlic and grilled bread; smooth, buttery flavors whet your appetite for further courses. Add blue cheese to the crunchy garden salad for a real treat. The cheeseburger is hearty and richly flavored, right down to the homemade ketchup. Chicken penne, loaded with walnuts, artichoke hearts and blue cheese, is remarkably light for such a decadent dish. Finish up with the warm chocolate cake and a cup of outstanding organic coffee.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoThe front door is sealed against winter drafts; enter through the neighboring salon's door. Those who need handicapped access should call ahead so the front door can be made available.
What to DrinkAll the drinks offered are also organic, including a decent wine list and a number of microbrews and imports.

Incredibly flavorful food, prepared to your specifications (in my case migraine issues), and presented attractively. I was able to eat gourmet instead of boring without concern, including dessert. What a rare treat! This is one of Seattle's best for anyone who enjoys fabulous food. (And a must for those of us with food allergies and sensitivities.)The chefs know how to spice food to match food issues, creating tastes that are both flavorful and subtle. Ignore the salon; Seattle's famous for a little funk and the restaurant itself is gracious and the service excellent.
Pros: Eat AND enjoy with peace of mind.
Cons: Location could be better but then you'd never get in to eat here.
