What Our Expert Scouts Say

Joey's Restaurant-Lake Union
February 14, 2013

Canada meets Seattle in this Chaim's local and original American location, waterfront with one of the best patios in town. Try the ahi tuna salad or sandwich, the curry and don't skimp on the house "slushed" cocktails.

Off peak, outside nice weather, great cocktails. I had been to Joey's before, with a group of friends, for cocktails and light snacks - we stayed in the (stylish) bar section and it was packed, Friday happy hour - lots of young people, and where DO they find the wait staff? not one that could even be called homely or average looking. My mom and aunt were coming to Seattle for a visit and I wanted them to try the Bellini - we went during the week, on Tuesday, at an off-peak time (2 pm); it was glorious weather, we sat outside and watched the sea planes, and ordered snacks and cocktails - we were seated promptly, were fortunate to have Danny as our waiter (who was surprised to find out he had been mentioned favorably in these reviews); he was pleasent and helpful; food was quite good, mom LOVE the Bellini - she does like sweet "harmless" drinks; both were very impressed. I had a chance to see the rest of the restaurant and was impressed with its sleek interior - great design with dark wood and pendant lights over the tables. At some point I will have to put them to the test and go for dinner. But if in doubt, definitely do as I did, go off hours when the weather is nice, sit outside and have a great time ..... and maybe even ask for Danny.

thumbs up. I had the salmon w/ green beans and a fried mashed potato roll (weird, yet good). I loved the food and the restuarant had a very romantic feel w/ the dim lighting and very modern decor. The service was good and we were promptly seated. I saw the other review that said she wanted over 30 mins. I guess it depends when you go. I loved it.

Don't go there!. Two weeks ago, my boyfriend's family flew into town from PA and they were meeting my parents for the first time. I had called in earlier that day to reserve a table near the bay windows for 7:30. I arrived at the restaurant at 7:20 and did not get seated until 8:05. As we were being served our drinks, I noticed a chip in my wine glass and as our appetizers were being served, I noticed chunks of food still on my plate. Towards the end of the meal, Lindsey cleared my food plate when I had over 3/4 of my lobster ravioli left. She did not bother to ask me if I wanted a box for the remainder of my food. All in all, one could imagine that I had a very disappointing dining experience at Joey's. On July 3, I called Joey?s and asked to speak to a manager. After two call backs, the general manager Alex finally returned my call. After refusing his offer for a dinner on the house, he told me he would call the corporate office to see if there were other options he could offer in order to compensate for this horrible dining experience. It's been almost two weeks and no one has called me.

Savvy Alternative to Belltown. Once you get past the construction, Joey's is a pleasant surprise off of Lake Union. Exceptional location with adequate parking. Dark, swank and inviting, I appreciated the sophisticated interior and the way the bar/lounge is separated from the restaurant. Its ambience is not for everyone...this place appeals to the Hollywood-chic type crowd, and on Friday's can get somewhat rowdy. An attractive crowd and better than attractive wait staff...In the bar area, you could read the apprehension on some faces as escorted lesser dressed ladies compared themselves to the attractively dressed wait staff, in their black dresses and shoes. Men, avoid bringing sand to the beach...women in groups of three or four common. The service was excellent, and my waitress was attentive and friendly. My Guinness was poured perfectly and the bar menu was plentiful. A great variety of martinis. Edamame with Sea Salt was steamed correctly, and attractively served. Two hours at this place is enough time to take it all in. Once construction clears, a potential weekly hangout. Enjoy!

Hot wait staff, average food.. Guys, GO THERE. Other reviewers are right about this being a high class Hooter. The wait staffs are definitely beautiful and the ambiance is excellent. It's good for a group of guys to go there, have a few drinks after work or pre-funk before hitting another place. Personally, I don't really care for the hot wait staff (it's not like they haven't heard all the lines customers throws at them) but my friends love it.

Ladies, best to avoid this place. Why go to a place when you won't get the attention? The food is avg the drinks are just ok and this place is on the expensive side.

This place is a guy's hang out.

Hot waitresses, but they will rip you off! Examine your bill!. Good food, and hot service, but I am sorry, our whole table..... OUR WHOLE TABLE had to return our Mojitos as the bartenders, who couldn't have been a day older than 15, made them incorrectly. And when when I got my credit card statement later on, it should that Joeys had charged me twice for our dinner. If you venture here, watch your bill.

Great drinks, food and service!. This is my absolute favorite restaurant!! I've been there for (small) pre-birthday dinners, happy hour, group dinners, just everything! The drinks are fantastic! I highly recommend the peach bellini, stiff lemonade and the Rocket Pop..beware, they're tasty and strong! Everytime I dine in the main room I try to get seated in Danny's section. The first time I went the server was just ok (kinda slow but she was very nice) but the second time I went Danny was our server. He took the time to explain the menu and was able to make great recommendations (for drinks, food, and vegetarian meals as well). Try the Diva salad and the famed mushroom soup! He was prompt and checked in frequently to see if we needed anything else. Ever since then when I take the time to dine in the dining room, I try to get seated in his section. So for those of you who have had problems with service, try asking for Danny, you won't be disappointed.

The servers and bartenders there are definitely all hot! Be sure to also check out the bar scene..its a great place to see and be seen, just ask the professional Seattle sports players that hang out here!

Worst Service Ever. 5 of my friends and I went out to Joey's expecting to have a nice dinner. Because of the size of our group and wanting to go on a Friday night, we made reservations - we still waited over 30 minutes to be seated. They tried to seat us at a table for 4 and a table for 2, this was unacceptable - we came as a group and wanted to enjoy each other's company so we had them move the tables together - that should have been done before we even arrived. Once seated it took forever for the waitress to come and take our drink orders and once ordered, we waited about a half hour for our first drink to arrive. The food took even longer. Our group had some special orders due to food allergies and 4 of the 6 meals ordered came out wrong and had to be sent back (there was even a hair in one person's soup). We called the manager over to explain the horrible time that we had at Joey's. He listened attentively and then did absolutely nothing. When we got the bill, we noticed that he comp'd the soup with the hair in it, approximately $10 of the $250 bill. Hardly what we expected after enduring such horrible service. Because of the slow service, we were there until after 11 - and we only had dinner and a couple of drinks. Who knows how long we would have been there had we had the nerve to ask for a dessert menu!!

Trendy food & drinks in a trendy, upscale atmosphere accompanied by an upscale price.. Went here with a group of friends & the atmosphere was good, food was good (a touch pricey, but to be expected when considering the atmosphere), drinks were pricey (although most drinks were pretty stiff), and service was okay - not stellar, not abysmal. We went in with a group of 12 and considering how seating is set up, I wouldn't recommend this place for any group larger than 4 (the tables are bolted, so we got separated into 3 tables of four, although they did make sure the 3 tables were together). It did take a fair amount of time for the food to come out and they really wern't that busy when we ordered. Overall, I would go back, and I would recommend it, but it's not really a great value for the money if that's what you're looking for.

Horrible service. This restaurant has excellent food, great drinks and a fabulous atmosphere--but the customer service is awful. Each time I have gone to the restaurant, the food has taken over an hour to be served--even when it is not busy--and waiters are not great about checking back. The bartenders are also rather stingy on drinks and they aren't cheap. I would recommend this venue if you have a lot of time on your hands and don't mind waiting around for your food to come.
