Editorial Review for Cafe Atlantic – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
Snappy Cuban music fills the airy space and pictures of Havana hang on the walls. Comfortable wicker furniture anchors one side, and elegantly appointed, white-clothed tables fill the other. The menu includes made-from-scratch papas rellenas and mashed potatoes stuffed with ground beef. The hearty ajiaca--a spicy jerked-beef stew--is enough to share. The sandwich menu is highlighted by serrano ham, sharp manchego cheese and grilled onions piled on thick potato-dill bread.

The cafe has a well-rounded wine list. If you're craving a mojito, however, you'll have to head to Xiomara around the corner.

Pay $5 for the garage on Union and Fair Oaks, or there's free 90-minute parking at the lot on Raymond and Green.

The Extras

Cuban-style breakfasts, Porto's bakery pastries and hot coffee are served every morning until 11:30am.

I held my graduation party here, and the service was superb. Melissa (the owner's daughter) worked with my price range to come up with a great 3 course menu. Since the place is small, I was able to reserve the entire restaurant for my party without any extra charge - great considering it was on a saturday night. The red snapper and cuban chicken are wonderful. one of best spots for cuban food in pasadena, with the other one being Xiomara, Cafe Atlantic's sister restaurant.

This is an out of the way spot within it's higher priced more high end sister restaurant Xiomara. For my money Cafe Atlantic has a better menu and prices. The mojitos are refreshing. I have traversed most of the menu and have yet to be disappointed. The service is always prompt and friendly. Their suggestions are never off. On my last visit I enjoyed lobster empanadas, arroz frito (fried rice) a mojito and the cuban flan was the best I'd ever had. I cannot get enough of this place. I will return many times in the future.
