Redmond >Family Pancake House
OUTSTANDING, Really this place is magic..
This is not a review from some nostalgic local fanatic. I'm from New York and I'm very used to great food. I just moved to Redmond to go to college (Digipen) and this is absolutely undoubtedly the best restaurant in town.
I ate breakfast here 5 times while staying at the Redmond Inn and each time was a treat. I'll even go so far as to say that they have the best pancakes and french toast I've ever had. I wasn't so sure about what kind of potatos I wanted with my eggs one day and I really enjoy french fries so as I've done several times before I got french fries with my eggs (over medium). I was actually rather surprised, they're some of the best steak fries I've ever had. Perfectly cooked.
So I'm thinking to myself this place is amazing for breakfast but how good could the rest of their food be? Turns out, pretty incredible. Here is a list of great food I've tried: Meatloaf, Fish and Chips, and Roast Turkey with mashed potatoes. I want to say that my cheeseburger was just as good but honestly I couldn't for the life of me get a burger that wasn't well done. It was actually still pretty good but next time when they ask how I want it I'm saying rare (I ordered 3 medium burgers and got 3 well done burgers).
Overall though this place is amazing. In fact writing this review makes me want to go back there. The prices are very reasonable if not cheap. You can manage to get a good breakfast for under $8 depending on what you get.
The biggest problem is that the service is hit or miss. A little more than half of the waiters are great but some are mediocre and a few are pretty bad. Oh and some real maple syrup would be nice, but it can get really expensive. I would've been willing to pay for it though, you only need a little. Maybe I'll bring my own next time I go.
If you stay at the Redmond Inn you can get some coupons to eat there. You'll be thanking them by the time you leave. They also have a room in the back for meetings or parties. Fits about 50-80 depending on how packed you want it. A large amount of incoming classmates and I got together there before school started to meet each other. We have a great time and the staff was great. Individual checks weren't a problem and they were in no rush to kick us out.
This place can get very busy though, at certain days and times of the week. So you might want to call first to see how busy it's going to be. It's obviously far more crowded saturday morning than a wednesday afternoon.
Anyway this place is great, go here, order something and come back. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Food is good... service ok. This place gets busy busy busy so plan for a wait. But hey... that's a good sign that it's well liked. It's a family place with your typical American breakfast cuisine. They do have specials that are always well worth trying - things you might not expect at a pancake house. The service could stand some improvement - things do get a little disorganized - but geez... they're busy busy busy. The family and I still enjoy going there and will continue to.
