Fun atmosphere. I went there for drinks on a wednesday night and the only part of the restraunt that wasn't hoppin' was the bar. Not the best experience with the TV blaring the sonics game, and the next-to empty bar surrounded by the crowded restraunt. However the drinks were good, service was quick and attentive, and I loved the western theme carried out to the max! I will definitely come back for dinner, but not just for drinks.
The historical dive bar is reborn as a hip, urban barbecue joint with a hoppin' bar in back..
The Scene
Little is left from the original Frontier Room, infamous for its dingy digs and stiff drinks. Now, a Western motif that's just this side of kitschy lends an approachable air to the place. Here, the paper menu doubles as a placemat and fingers are guaranteed to get messy. Menu choices include generous plates of beef brisket, St. Louis ribs, and the "Oysters Frontier," baked in a cast-iron pan and topped with hollandaise.
What a great secret!.
The barbeque was fantastic. I had the St. Louis ribs, they were juicy and dryrubbed. The macncheese was fresh and creamy, we should have gotten a large. We had the bacon wrapped prawns (mmm bacon). The catfish, in cornmeal was not greasy, but buttery and soft.
Huge beer selection. I gota Mojito that was perfect and lots of rum! My friend had a "clear cosmopolitan" (clear cranberry juice?) it didn't have the tart she expected and she liked it better, She ordered 2 more.
A great place to hang out with friends. Belltown is oh-so hip now. I'm tired of all the fakes. Everyone at this place was very real. The bartenders are such a hoot! They were goofing around, having a good time and still serving an amazing amount of drinks. I will certainly go again. I suggest asking the servers what they recommend. They helped us immensly.
More fools us that we ignored the reviews.
Despite reading reviews warning about the waulity of the food here, I decided to take out-of-town guests here anyway. The next day, the unanimous reaction was that this restaurant should not be inflicted on any visitors again.
Service was friednly and fast. The food was bad to mediocre. The pulled pork sandwich was flavorless and dry. The ribs were dry and tasteless. The well-done burger was a burnt piece of char that could've been anything. The fries were limp and boring, and the coleslaw was easily the worst I've tasted in a restaurant. The beer was good.
Best Barbeque, great atmosphere. The staff is so friendly and the food is unbelievable! The Barbeque is the best I have had north, west and east of Texas. The smoked Chicken falls off the bone and the ribs... WOW.. the wine list is great too!
.... Used to like this place a lot and wrote a review. I don't know how to remove this review so I have to type something. First, they no longer have the hot sauce, instead they replace it with tobasco and the ribs taste OK...
Not for food. It seems pretty obvious that the Frontier Room makes its money on big cocktail nights peddling to wanna-bes and burnouts who, for obvious reasons, don't have an appetite anyway hence the overwhelmingly mediocre food. If you're interested in meeting shallow people in their element, head on down to the FR. It's crowded, smoky, and they'll make you wait outside to keep it looking crowded to passers-by. On the other hand, I've dropped in a couple times and still enjoy the famous STIFF drinks. I think I saw Bob White in the bathroom. Welcome to Belltown.
The New Frontier.... is comforting. Friends & I enjoy dining here. The BBQ beef sandwich was tasty, but a bit fatty. The other white meat sandwich proved worthier, and the salmon was even more delectable, as was the sauce served over it. YUM! The BBQ sauce is thick, spicy and mouth-watering delicious. The collard greens were tender & spicy, and some of the best we've tasted! The heartburn was well worth it. The wedge salad is perfect for those (like myself) who crave a simple iceberg lettuce, tomato, and blue cheese (chunky!) salad. Although the wedge sizes were somewhat inconsistent (at $4.50, give us some wedge!). The fries are hot and greasy. Forget the cole slaw. Bland & tasteless. Grab the beans or corn bread & chili instead. The service is friendly. The open kitchen is nice to watch. Thanks for great eats!
The Frontier Room: Seattle hot spot. Downtown Seattle has finally found a bar that is the place to be without being pretentious. The decor is fun and attractive, the food is good and not over priced, and the bartenders and waitstaff pleasant. These people know how to make good drinks! Their creative concoctions are a pleasant surprise!
Meaty paradise. Food was on the table quickly. Meat had just the right amount of spice and melted in your mouth. BBQ sauce was very tasty. Hush puppies had a kick to them. BBQ for two could have easily fed three people.
