The Scene
Colorful modern glass lamps light up the wooden booths and floors-it's a simple, unpretentious background that suits families and couples alike. The central area of the dining room can get noisy; if privacy is important, hold out for a booth under the skylights. Don't shy away from asking detailed questions about the food sources-the staff knows what's local, wild-caught or farmed.
The Food
Straightforward, hearty dishes give the menu equal appeal across generations and dietary preferences. Salads are accessorized with treats like brie and Marcona almonds; the large size generously serves two or provides a few nibbles for four. Expect steaks nicely cooked to order, with portions that practicaly guarantee leftovers. For dessert, anything with Olympic Mountain ice cream is a hit-the warm chocolate cake comes topped with an oversize scoop.

This restaurant is a mixed bag when it comes to classification but a big winner on all counts. Baked feta appetizer was great, as was the truffle fries.Small menu changes often.

My boyfriend and I have eaten here more than a dozen times. The truffle fries are to die for! I'm a vegetarian and he's not, and there are a handful of vegetarian options, but like Bick's down the street (same owners, I believe), they have a special vegetarian menu you need to ask for which "calls out" the vegetarian options but also has some options that aren't on the regular menu. Why do this? I have no idea, it seems like they should just incorporate everything onto the regular menu. I'd give this 5 stars except last time we ate there the boyfriend got a steak he really wasn't happy with. We LOVE the $20 wines. One other great thing about Saltoro - we've gone there on big nights like Fridays, New Year's Eve and Valentine's Day, and we've never had much of a wait.

My father, boyfriend, and I walked to Saltoro for dinner a few weeks ago. I liked the appearance from the outside and was excited to try a place in our new neighborhood (we just moved). I might have tried the wrong things on the menu, but had somewhat limited options as a vegetarian, and everything I ordered was greasy (pizza and salad). I also wasn't a huge fan of the pumpkin martini which tasted like egg nog and would have been better as a dessert. I am definitely still excited to go back sometime though, because as I said, I may have just ordered the wrong things! And my boyfriend and dad were happy with their food!
