Tips for Jolly Roger Taproom

Citysearch Editorial Review. If you?ve ever wondered what it would be like to drink beer aboard a pirate ship (or if pirates make good onion rings) then this Ballard brewery/bar is the place for you. With a buccaneer theme that rivals anything found in Disneyland and hand-crafted beers that rival, well, most other beers, this isn?t your average Friday night bar. The ample selection of beers, brewed right next door at the Maritime Pacific Brewing Company, are as subtly flavored as the incredibly elaborate floor-covering treasure map is intricately drawn. And then, there are the onion rings. They come piled higher than a peg leg and with all of the fried greasy goodness that you could reasonably expect. From its beers to its atmosphere to its piled-high onion rings, there?s no wonder Roger (whoever he is) is so Jolly.

Great brews on taps. Excellent food. A few annoying drunk guys - but oh well -its a bar!. Excellent beers on tap! And yes the mini-burgers are everything people say they are - delicious! i also had the mahi burgers which were also excellent. Some annoying drunk guys were next to us, but oh well, they can't always be avoided.

I recommend this place if you want to try some good Northwestern Brews. It's a local hang out so be aware that means the vibe people bring may vary.

Really not good at all.... This place is really disappointing. Sorry, but the waitress was extremely rude from beginning to end. I hate this place and I will never go back. I went a a whim, the waitress proved that it was a fail in every way. Worst experience ever. PS. The beer was good, but that hardly makes up everything else that sucked so badly. Please don't go here. You might want to be a pirate like I did, but this is not the place to do it.

Really good or really bad.. you will have a great time or a bad time. also. We have been to Maritime many different times and some of those times are great and other's are not good at all. The food always seems to be consistently good. The service waivers from visit to visit. Some nights you have to almost get angry to get a beer and menu, and other times a beer is waiting for you before you even sit down.

The other thing that is on or off. It is amazing how many times they are been out of a well-known style. I don't get it. The brewery is just on the other side of the wall and you can't get but half their beers.

Also please open on sunday.

Great old school pub in a changing Seattle. What a great place! As parents of a 9 month old, we miss eating at our favorite pubs. After securing a babysitter on Tuesday nights, The Jolly Roger was the first place we wanted to return. Excellent food - the Little Jolly "sliders"-style burgers are excellent. We had mussels and clams that were wonderful - just enough flavor but didn't mask the taste of the seafood. Beer is always great. Service is perfect. Much of the staff are transfers from Hoyt's on Queen Anne - a place we dearly miss as upper Queen Anne turns into a giant tanning salon and condo complex. Jolly Roger continues the good food and friendly service that is missing in so much of changing Seattle. A busy tap room is worth the wait!

I like this place...I really do.... Good, fresh food. Good, fresh beer. It's a bit small, and I've found myself waiting for a bar stool to open up, but I enjoyed the food and drink. Nice folk as well.

Horrible service. We were all looking forward to stopping by and getting something to drink and eat last Saturday evening around 9pm, with a group of eight and we had the most unpleasant experience I've had at a restaurant or bar in Seattle. The "gentleman" (that's a very generous title to give him) was extremely rude and made several sharp and derogatory comments to individuals in our group in the process of waiting on us. I do not know if he was having a bad day but he certainly did not make our time there pleasant. Consequently, we decided to just finish our pitchers and leave without ordering food, and go to another place in Ballard. Believe me there are to many great places in Seattle with a good selection of beer and food and with great service to waste time going here. We definitely will not be going back there again.

Ballard brewer lures mateys with handcrafted ales and cozy environs.. The Scene
Pirate paraphernalia adorns the walls here, but an unlikelier scene for swashbuckling and plunder you'll be hard pressed to find. Brightly lit, non-smoking, and featuring a menu with mostly nutritious grub, the pub is practically wholesome. Unlike other area on-site brewpubs, though, the Jolly Roger doesn't feel like a mere marketing exercise; it's intimate and-especially when the old-fashioned stove warms a bone-chilling winter drizzle-rather cozy. Those who do wish to purchase officially licensed merchandise are accommodated, of course.

The Draw
Appropriately, the handicraft from the adjacent brewery is the highlight here. Fourteen taps of fresh beer are offered, including two or three cask-conditioned ales. Seasonal brews, most notably Jolly Roger, the popular and potent winter ale the pub was named after, are especially inviting.

Great food!. Excellent food - the kitchen has true culinary talent. Rotating dinner menu with 4 tasty meals which change every month or so. New lunch hours feature scaled-down versions of their dinners. Appetizers very tasty - good quality. Everything has a unique blend to it. Beer is tapped from the brewary next door and very flavorable. Service level is always on par no matter how crowded. Non-smoking. Clean restrooms. It gets alittle noisy in the evenings, and space is very limited!
