Beautiful Parisian Inspired Bakery. Tucked away in a small offshoot of main Ballard, Honoré Artisan Bakery serves some of the finest pastries in Seattle. Rich, buttery, flaky croissants fresh of out the oven infiltrating the space is practically heaven. They also offer some unique items typically not found at other bakeries in the city. The Kouign Amann introduced to me recently by a friend is divine; a puff pastry layered with salt and sugar then topped with bits of sea salt and sugar will have you on your knees (well not literally). Delicate quiches quickly disappear on weekend mornings. The Parisian style macaroons are one of their signature items. Honoré is a staple of the neighborhood, so order a coffee from Lighthouse roasters and sink into one of the Adirondack chairs in front with a fresh pastry. You won't want to leave.

You'd Butter Get Here!. Smack-dab in the middle of a lovely Ballard neighborhood, and snuggled up on a block next to the esteemed pizza house Delancey, Honore brings people and delicious French pastries together in an elegant union that includes lots and lots of butter .

This patisserie is well known for several of their French confections including the croissant, canelé, macaron, Kouign amann, and … well, everything they bake! There is nary a disappointment behind their case of pastry jewels. On a recent visit, their quiche was superb, with a delicate crust and brilliant combination of gruyere, egg & leek . Coffee by Lighthouse and the best dog watching this side of Marymoor complete your quest for Sunday morning nirvana.

Tip: though a place to sit can be hard to come by, there is additional seating in a delightful patio area behind the building!

Delicious Ballard Bakery and Macaroon Master. This charming Ballard bakery is a tempting spot to camp out with a book, a pastry and a steaming latte. With only 6 stools though, that can be an overly ambitious plan. That said, the pastries are fantastic - the Kouign Amann hits that perfect sweet/salty balance with sea salt and burned sugar. The pastries taste as scrumptious as they look and the girl behind the counter is as sweet as the confections she dispenses. Don't leave without a couple of colorful macaroons, one of the bakery's signature items. They have about a dozen flavors and when you get home and bite into that delicately flavored perfection, you'll be glad you followed my advice.

Citysearch Editorial Review. If this were San Francisco, with all its teensy tiny neighborhoods, the block of 70th between 15th and 14th in Ballard would be its own 'hood--a culinary destination in itself with 2009 heavyweights Delancey and Honore, plus Tarasco and A Caprice Kitchen. But this positively delightful Parisian cafe, despite very limited seating and a propensity to run out of items early in the day, is enough to anchor foodies to the block. Wednesdays through Sundays, a small staff serves well-crafted espresso drinks and buttery, delicate pastries--a few croissants and danishes that rotate with the seasons, plus staples like the must-have kouign amann, a salty-sweet, fist-sized pastry like a layered croissant topped with sea salt and burnt sugar. Toward lunch, as the breakfast sweets are snapped up by neighbors in the know, the glass case is restocked with slices of quiche and a rainbow of macarons. Stay until dinner and you'll get the chance to check out the surrounding restaurants.
