Editorial Review for Casuelita's – by Silja J.A. Talvi
The Scene
This two-story bar and restaurant is a winner. Warm, orange tropical tones and artful decorations open up the otherwise small space, which may initially feel cramped if you're used to bigger bar settings. Casuelita's sets out to make customers feel at home, and the ethnically diverse, professionally-attired patrons love lingering for that reason.
The Draw
Downstairs, patrons either sit at the bar, window seats or at round, glass covered wicker tables. Food here is exotic, hearty and designed to go along with rum drinks, which range from the clean, unadulterated taste of the Pineapple Rum Spritzer to the rich combo of the Bushwhacker, which consists of dark and coconut rum mixed with chocolate liquer, Kahlua, Bailey's and nutmeg. Even lighter appetites will want to try out appetizers like the decadent deep-fried pepper potato cakes.

The food here is amazing! In response to other reviews, the food is worth any bad service that you might receive (although I have been there at lease a dozen times and never had a poor service experience). Plan ahead with a reservation (Someone commented that they called on Friday for a 7pm reservation that night??! Really? Not sure what restaurants they go to, but this is a cool spot that is getting more and more attention, not sure how you can be disgruntled about not getting in). If you have to wait, oh well, chill out, relax and enjoy some rum. Also, the ribs are a must have. They are unbelievable!
Pros: Hidden spot, Food, Happy Hour
Cons: None

I'll save you some time and say that out of 5 times that I have been there I have had good service 4 times. Not to be gender biased, but the waiters there are a far better group than waitresses. The girls that fill the water did well, but the main waitress was not so good. She forgot 2 of our items in a party of 4, and then had a serious attitude problem when inquired about the location of such food. It is true what they say about the service...they could give a sh@t! HOWEVER, the food is great! Just be prepared to sit and wait for a while and watch the seemingly lost waitress wander around and wonder to yourself "what is she doing?".
Pros: Great food!
Cons: Bad service and you leave smelling like you were cooking with the food!
