Editorial Review for Fu Kun Wu @ Thaiku – by Anna Roth
In Short
Head through the shop-lettered front doors tucked in the back of the restaurant to enter this apothecary-themed lounge, which sets an exotic mood with low lighting, carved teak reliefs, a bamboo mural and scores of antique knick-knacks on wall shelves. Specialty cocktails include the Oolong Tea-ni, made with black tea, and the Yohito, a mojito made with the African herb yohimbe, rumored to be an aphrodisiac, stimulant and mild hallucinogen.

Wow! This place is GREAT! I had the good fortune to go there on a Thursday night when there was a jazz band playing there. But it wasn't just any jazz band. It was Tadd Britton, Mark Seals and Jeff Johnson. These guys are three MONSTER players! It was fantastic! there is a beautiful grand piano in there and I couldn't believe it when I found out they have been having live jazz in there every Thursday night for years! This is a real underground jazz club as good as you would find anywhere in the country! I try to go there every Thursday to see who's playing. They don't really advertise it but I highly recommend checking out a Thursday night. They didn't charge a cover charge for the live music, either! I had a drink called a "Yohito" and it was very tasty! The food is EXCELLENT! I had the Phad Thai and it had a real tamerin paste base as opposed to the ketchup that many American/Thai places use. I have been to Thailand many times and the food here is really authentic. I give it 5 stars just for the quality of the music alone!

I have been to this restaurant since it opened and loved the food. The real gem of this space is the bar and the downstairs. Talk about different. It is a cool little cellar space that is fun and intimate. The drinks are creative and potent.
Pros: Cool place to show off
Cons: parking
