Their coffee is wonderful - True North beans from Ballard. The baristas are, for the most part, very good at what they do, and there is a funky, comfy, eclectic atmosphere in the shop. My main complaint is with the food, which tends to be inconsistent. Some days it is phenomenal, and a great bargain for the price. Other days it is horrible - overcooked, undercooked, odd flavors, etc. and it is difficult to justify the prices. The portioning is also inconsistent, I've noticed. One day I might get a huge scone for only $2, the next day it will be a third as big. They have areas to improve, but in general this is a shop with good potential.
best in maple leaf!. The first time I walked in, I had my doubts- the place was packed, and the stollers were jamming up traffic. But after spending a few minutes, the moms settled into a kids area. There's an honor bar for drip coffee (only a buck!), so I didn't have to wait in line, and the food was cheap for gourmet-definitely not your average coffee shop swill. It all seems to be made on site, and they have the most unique flavor combinations for both baked goods and quiches. Definitely worth the trip- I'm a new regular.
