Seattle >Rocking Wok
Lots of food for little money and good service.
I go here once a week for lunch. I like it because it's quiet and I can bring a book and no one bothers me.
I'm not a Chinese (or Taiwanese) food critic. I always get the kung pao chicken and I LOVE it. You get hot tea, rice, entree, egg roll and soup for $5.95.
I look forward to Rocking Wok day!
Getting worse. Honestly say, after the previous owner sold this restaurant in 2007, their dishes are getting worse, and smaller. I will not going there anymore... furthermore, the current owner's not even a Tawainese. I'd rather go to China Town now.
This place is Disgusting!!!!.
My boyfriend and I were excited to find a cute hole in the wall place in the Wallingford neighbord. We were soooo disappointed. We got the Taiwanese meatball, a noodle dish, the duck speciality, and a Taiwanese soda. I've never been so disappointed. We tried all of the dishes but didn't eat more than a couple of bites of everything. We kept a positive attitute and got the left-overs to go. After we left the restaurant, we both admitted we hated that place and threw the leftovers away.
Despite the bad service and tacky and dirty atmosphere, we left a decent tip. My boyfriend keeps all of his receipts and keeps track of the amount of the tip he leaves. He was shocked when he got the credit card bill and saw the waiter must have changed the tip line because his card was charged $5 more than it should have been. I will NEVER go back.
For a great Asian restaurant in Wallingford, try Jhanjay instead.
Love.. If you want authentic Taiwanese cuisine that is delicious, affordable and LOCAL - run, don't walk to the Rocking Wok! The thousand layer pancake is carb-heaven. Obsessed. My husband and I finished off the entire serving by ourselves! I know, I know - mongolian beef is everywhere, but again, I am obsessed. All the dishes we have ever ordered are great. They also do take-out and though we have moved out of the neighborhood, we will gladly drive over to pick up their food!
Authentic and Priced Right!.
My Brother-In-Law lived in Taiwan for two years, and wanted to visit a restaurant with Taiwanese cuisine while he was in Seattle. Rocking Wok was a delightful surprise! Apparently, it is totally authentic. My husband and I have been back numerous times since our first visit, and have never been disappointed.
It is a typical "hole-in-the-wall" (ie- the cleanliness of the place leaves a little to be desired); but the food MORE than makes up for it!
My husband could eat an entire serving of Ginger Beef himself; and I LOVE the Delightful Green Beans. When we have been there the dishes we ordered have been delivered to our table one at a time; but this is because they are being made fresh-to-order! This place is such a treat!
it's my first time been there and it 's my last time as well.
a couple days ago...i went down there with my friend...
the food was kinda good.
oh my god..the floor in the kitchen messed up ..so nasty..they put the anything down the floor..i saw some meat...
the boss is so fake...i dont like his attitude..SO CONCEITED!!!!!
Nom nom nom, but wish there were more vegetarian options.
After everyone was full, I was forced to get another order of thousand-layer pancakes (more like crispy hash browns as bread, or something, but anyway). Scallion pancakes very good. Leek "pancakes" so-so in my opinion, and much more empanada than pancake.
Some scary looking Taiwanese dishes appear on the menu, but after being amazed at the quality of the less-scary dishes, a dining companion decided she just might be willing to trust the chef and get something like the "veggie w/ pork blud* cake & intestine soup" next time.
(*CitySearch auto-censor won't let me spell it correctly, so read it like it sounds. "We have detected the following inappropriate words:...")
I wish there were more vegetarian options tho - I don't think any of the house specialties were vegetarian, and it would be nice to have more options that weren't standard Chinese restaurant fare. But at least the quality was better than most Chinese restaurants. And I could drown my sorrows in the thousand-layer pancakes.
Used to be much better!. Rocking Wok used to be one of my favorite Asian restaurants. I'm Taiwanese and even brought my parents there who liked it. Then they changed ownership and it's been hit-or-miss since. Sometimes it's great but mostly, it's now so-so.
Great waiter! Wonderful neighborhood restaurant..
After reading the reviews I expected good food but poor service by a grumpy waiter. Instead we had good food and GREAT service! The steamed fish (non-menu item) was excellent. Dishes could use less oil.
The restaurant is slightly understaffed (12 mostly full tables/1 waiter), but the waiter was cheerful and made great suggestions! He even volunteered to bring the take-out boxes so we could take our food home - without us asking! Great experience! The tea was refilled several times.
One of the best Taiwanese cruisine in Northwest. Authentic Taiwanese dishes, resonable price! The owner is nice and friendly. Try their fried rice and side dishes. Will go again!
