Editorial Review for Mojito Cafe – by Jill Lightner

The Scene
Although located in lower Queen Anne, the dinner hour at this Cuban bistro often feels more like a boisterous Belltown club. Music is loud, tables are crowded together and the conga drums serving as bar stools result in many an impromptu and tipsy drumming circle.

The Food
When the staff says "spicy," they mean it, especially when it comes to the dipping sauces. A mild choice is pabellon, a richly tender shredded beef dish served with beans, rice and sweet fried plantains. Chuletas (seasoned pork chops) are at the opposite end of the heat spectrum--taste before adding any of those side sauces, even if you think it can never be too hot. Tres leches cake is the only dessert. Soaked in cream and sweet milk, it's a decadent ending for all taste buds.

A $10 annual fee gets you membership in the Mojito club, which offers discounts on food, drinks and events.

When to Go

Dine early on weekends to avoid the bar crowd. Weeknights can be tricky--a quick after-work drink can become a conga-thumping extravaganza with no warning. Live music is also a regular occurrence--ask before making reservations.

Know Before You Go

While under the same name and ownership, this location features a different menu than the Lake City location. Beverages, desserts and some entrees are the same in either spot.

This is a place where the food is mediocre and the service is horendous. In a city where food is abundant, you would think that Mojitos would at least try to live up to a mediocre standard. Unfortunately, their food is dry (try the beef) and their service is the absolute worst in the city. Additionaly, they try (I repeat TRY) to open up an establishment that is a nightclub that attracts a well to do crowd; however, their bouncers are tastless, pretentious, and prejudice. I absolutely do NOT recommend this place unless you are looking for a horrible time with a unscrupulous staff.

Cons: Food is dry and most of the time dull and the service is horrendous

Please don't waste your time and money on this place. You will find rude cop-wanna-be security guys, very slow service and inconpetent employees. I wish that I had seen these reviews on this place before going there. What was supposed to be a fun night turned into a disappointment and upseting time.
