The historic buildings of Issaquah's Gilman Village are home to this elegant yet laid-back Afghani restaurant.
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- The Restaurant's namesake comes from the ancient statues carved deep into the cliffs overlooking the Bamiyan valley in Afghanistan--and in 2001 were destroyed by the Taliban.
- The Extras:
- The menu here boasts a full-page extensive vegetarian selection, offering choices like Badenjan Borani, a sautee of eggplant and tomato sauce, baked and topped with garlic-mint yoghurt.
bamiyan; horrid service and uninspiring food

The food was bland, my lamb was dry and overcooked. The price seemed excessive for rather small portions. The service was far and beyond the worst I have ever experienced. When I arrived I had a wait to be seated while the waiter took a personal phone call. When I complained that my lamb was bland I was told I simply didn’t understand Afghani spices. It was a total disappointment.
Who are they kidding?

Rude waitstaff, small portions, overpriced.
- Pros: The only Afghan food in Issaquah
- Cons: Everything else
Good Food, Good Service

I'll have to admit I've never had Persian or Afghani food before so I was skeptical. When we went we asked the waiter for suggestions and he was very helpful. Even with allergy issues, he was able to point out the things that we should avoid and suggested asking for certain sauces on the side.
All the dishes we had were excellent and I wish I had left room for dessert.
If you're looking for something different, give this place a try.
- Pros: Open patio when weather permits
Best Kebab around here

We've been going to Bamiyan frequently since it opened. My husband and I both love Persian and Afghani food, so this is a natural for us. The Afghani Kebabs are particularly good, as is the Aush soup. I find it amazing that so many are complaining about the service. We've found the service to be absolutely perfect. Maybe that's because we're relatively regular. The owner is very friendly and very quick. When he's not around, his backup is a bit less sure of what they're doing, but, still, always kind and attempting to be accomodating.
We love to go out for good food and can't stand how much average to awful food there is at restaurants of this price range around the eastside. Bamiyan is well above the rest and is our go-to place for reasonably priced very good food in a comfortable setting. Now if only it wasn't in Issaquah since there's just no quick and easy way to Issaquah from Redmond.
- Pros: Kefta Kebabs, Shami Kebab, Aush
- Cons: None really
AWFUL - you'll feel ripped off!

My husband and I only ventured out to this place because of a coupon in our Entertainment book. There were only 2 or 4 other diners in the restaurant, but it took at least a half hour to get our orders to the table, and when they arrived they were very, very cold. We would have sent them back but our waiter was no where to be seen. The portions were small, mine was badly over seasoned and included the MOST stale bread I've ever been served, and they had significantly raised their prices from those printed in the Entertainment book. Instead of complaining we decided to get out of there ASAP. As we were walking to our car we figured out why we had such horrible service - the waiter was out back talking to his friends instead of delivering hot entrees to his customers.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Small portions, terrible service, cold food
