In Short – The aroma of grilled meat from the open kitchen tantalizes the waiting crowd that spills onto the sidewalk. Once inside, low lighting illuminates the mahogany furnishings, creating an atmosphere of relaxed sophistication. The menu has a straightforward selection of steaks, pork, chicken and fish--unlike most steak joints in town, the salad, veggies and potato are included in the price of each dinner. Appetizers are nonexistent; the butter-kissed Delmonico or porterhouse are indulgent entrees.

Disappointed & mediocre

by SueZ444

I used to dine quite often at the West Seattle Jak's and have been to the Laurelhurst location several times, but was quite disappointed at the quality of the food on this visit.

I had the halibut special and my sister the filet mignon medallions. The food came quite quickly and it's a nice touch that the meal comes with a rather large salad (although my sister's vinaigrette dressing kind of tasted like half-rotting vegetables).

The real disappointment was my sister's filet which was quite mediocre and not particularly tasty. She ended up eating the dungeness crab off the top and leaving the steak! My seared halibut with shrimp had some spice and kick to it.

Our server, who was really attentive and knowledgeable about the food and wine made an excellent recommendation for a red to go with my meal and that's why there's an extra star rating in this review. Otherwise, it'd be 2 stars.

one of the worst in town

by CSMobileUser2

I can't imagine ever going back here after watching the cook not wash his hands after using the bathroom. The staff were very arrogant and they were slow. The salad was wilted, the steak was mediocre and they don't know medium rare means pink in the middle, it was well done. Lame. It reminded me of Outback steakhouse, except it was way more than Outback costs. They should learn how to cook and treat people well and maybe lower their prices and maybe they would have something there.

A great steak

by JCArnold

The food is great and the atmosphere is always lively. I make this a dining destination whenever my sister comes to visit. I have never had a problem with the service, the servers have always been polite. The only issue is that there is limited parking and you have to wait a little to be seated, but that comes with a good restaurant.
