Seattle >Jak's Grill
lacking in service!!!!. We used to go to Jaks all the time but we will never go back again!! Last night we WAITED for our dinner to arrive at the table...it took them 45 minutes!!!! It was 10:30 at night for crying out loud ..like they were busy??NOT!!! We had to send one entree back because they didn't listen to our specifications. We got NO apology and by the time they brought it back..15 minutes later I was finished eating my dinner. By this time we were so annoyed and disgusted by the lack of their service skills we asked him to put the steak salad in a to go box. The aloof and uncaring waiter brought us our bill and he didn't even say, "SORRY for the wait" or even "Thank you". Needless to say, they have lost our business!!!
New Favorite Steak Restaurant. Service was unpretentious, atmosphere was casual, yet certainly not "pub like", and the quality of the meat and the value of the meal put Jaks well ahead of other more expensive steak restaurants I've been to. A great recommend - and well worth the wait!
Disappointed & mediocre.
I used to dine quite often at the West Seattle Jak's and have been to the Laurelhurst location several times, but was quite disappointed at the quality of the food on this visit.
I had the halibut special and my sister the filet mignon medallions. The food came quite quickly and it's a nice touch that the meal comes with a rather large salad (although my sister's vinaigrette dressing kind of tasted like half-rotting vegetables).
The real disappointment was my sister's filet which was quite mediocre and not particularly tasty. She ended up eating the dungeness crab off the top and leaving the steak! My seared halibut with shrimp had some spice and kick to it.
Our server, who was really attentive and knowledgeable about the food and wine made an excellent recommendation for a red to go with my meal and that's why there's an extra star rating in this review. Otherwise, it'd be 2 stars.
A great steak. The food is great and the atmosphere is always lively. I make this a dining destination whenever my sister comes to visit. I have never had a problem with the service, the servers have always been polite. The only issue is that there is limited parking and you have to wait a little to be seated, but that comes with a good restaurant.
Middle of the road.. The food was decent--nothing super spectacular. I didn't have any bad experience with the service, such as the other reviewers described. But if I had to complain about anything, the seats aren't very comfortable. I thought the hostess was pretty hot, too haha.
Seeing and hearing will dispell any myths. Hey, I was checking out the scene at JaK's Grill in Laurelhurst. What was I thinking? In reading the review about the cook not washing his hands after he used the urinal I thought the person doing the review was over the top. How could this be so?....... Here's the thing.......although we laughed about how disgusting this is, me and two co-workers got together to see if the restaraunt was still in business, yep, yep. So we had a few beers.....bottled of course. We saw and heard the tall cook with that earpiece, yelling at the servers!!!!! Wow he must be "ALL THAT" and a handfull of hairy nuts Chuckle, chuckel...........
OK food, really spotty service. The food is fine here, but they have a huge problem with getting customers in and out. We stood around with throngs of others while uncleaned tables sat empty for 10-20 minutes; obviously they don't have enough staff bussing tables. The wait staff is also very stretched -- not checking on how our food was, and completely AWOL for about 30 minutes. If I'm going to be paying $30 for a steak and $12 for a glass of wine, I expect much more.
Exceeded Expectations!. My boyfriend took me here for our 1 year anniversary, since we both had a giant steak craving. After poking around Citysearch for awhile, and reading a lot of the reviews about snobby service and average food at the upscale places (Metropolitan, Palisades, El Gaucho), we decided to give this place a shot. What a great experience! We came a bit late, and probably waited around half an hour (although they told us a wait time of an hour), since the place wasn't that big. We started with our pick of either a balsamic vinegar or blue cheese salad, with yummy warm bread and butter. I got the filet mignon (OMG sooo tasty...very flavorful and done to perfection) and my boyfriend got the 24oz porterhouse steak, which was way huge but not as good as mine--of course I'm being facetious. The service was very good, not snippy at all (although he didn't smile that much). I got the mashed potatoe side, which wasn't that flavorful, and my boyfriend got the yummiest baked potatoe that was full of everything you can imagine. Next time we want to try the potatoe cakes! Overall excellent experience, and it won't break a college student's budget :)
Best neighborhood steakhouse. Jak's consistently has delicious steaks - they tend to cook their meat on the rarer side so if you want medium-rare, ask for it done medium. Last saturday we had the special ahi tuna dish which was outstanding. We really like that the corkage fee is very reasonable too. You can always count on genuinely nice wait staff.
I'm not sure what the big deal is about this place. The bill is usually half of what one would spend at El Gaucho and The Met but the steaks are nowhere as good, even if they use the same steaks. And I'm not so sure if JaK's cooks the same steaks as those at The Met and El Gaucho. I'm sure it's dry aged 28 days, but either they get their steaks from a different source or they aren't discriminating enough when they pick their cuts. The first New York I had was well marbled but the second one was lean.
I'd rather pick my own cuts at Double Meats and cook at home.
