Editorial Review for Chocolati Chocolate Cafe – by Jill Lightner
The Scene
Sophisticated colors, funky local art, quiet indie rock and oversized armchairs: It feels like the quintessential Seattle cafe. Groups stop in for a round of hot chocolate on their weekend walk; weekday mornings, you'll find moms relaxing after a workout. The baristas aren't much for offering suggestions or personal favorites; enjoy the indulgent trial-and-error process to find the best.
The Food
Finely grated semisweet chocolate is combined only with butterfat in the decadent house-named version of hot chocolate; add subtle orange or powerful mint flavorings, or even a shot of espresso. Grab a locally made Whoopie Pie or small bag of rich chocolates before your walk around the lake--peanut butter passions (more reminiscent of a truffle than a Reese's cup) and espresso-mint towers will keep you charged up for the whole three miles.

I went last night with my boyfriend and his cousin for dessert. It was a first time for all of us, and we were all excited by the display of chocolate in front of us. I ordered the turtle (hot chocolate with caramel and hazelnut), my boyfriend ordered the irish cream, and his cousin ordered the house hot chocolate. They were unlike any hot chocolate I have ever had! It had the consistency of melted chocolate bars, rather than chocolate flavored hot milk that you get in so many other places. We ordered the 8 oz size and it took us about an hour to drink it because it was so rich! We also shared a chocolate cream cheese brownie that was fantastic. The ambience was great. It's not the kind of place I would regular because of the richness, but it is definitely a nice occasional treat.
Pros: fantastic array of desserts
Cons: less than enthusiasic service

It is very unfortunate that this cute little café with good chocolates have such unfriendly servers. The servers seem to have permanent frowns on their faces. Today, I actually got lectured for not knowing the difference between a macchiato and a cappuccino. In the city, where there is a coffee house on every corner, I can take my business some place where I won’t be served any abuse with my latte.
Pros: location, chocolates, coffee
Cons: service
