In Short – The ultramodern furniture, deep plum walls and rock music in the background give this sushi spot a hip edge popular with trendy downtown workers and pretheater diners. The coolest roll on sushi-heavy menu is the flamin' fire variety--tuna wrapped in albacore, drizzled with rum and set aflame--but others also satisfy. Also featured are traditional favorites like yaki soba and udon, as well as dressed-up classics like miso soup with lobster.
Editor's Tips
- The Extras:
- Hey big spender, impress your date with the pricey Omokase, a chef's choice meal offering exotic samples from the sushi bar.
- Know Before You Go:
- The bathroom is located through the south door--the codes for entry are pasted on the wall near the door.
- Save Money:
- Happy hour runs from daily 4pm-6pm, Mon-Thu 10pm-11pm and Fri-Sat 10pm-12am , offering deals on rolls, sashimi, appetizers, beer and sake bombs.
- What to Drink:
- Try a Japanese-influenced cocktail like the lychee martini or wasabi bloody mary.
good sushi, sexy, smart decor

i have always liked this place. it is a sexy first day place. you get to talk in an intimate environment with the right music and delicious bites. And, you get to talk without interruption, because, yes, the service is pretty slow. :) I guess it depends on how you look at things, eh? You won't be sorry going here, though. I like the sushi better than Shiros, I love sushi, and many other sushi places in Seattle.
- Pros: great sushi, interesting drinks
- Cons: slow service
Slink into Nijo
by Kelly Vigesaa , Citysearch Contributor at Citysearch
With its side street entrance and dark decor, Nijo complements the damp Seattle weather like classic film noir.
The menu is classic, fresh Japanese/American fare, but what sets it apart is the portion size. The nigiri and maki sushi are crafted well and made smaller in size, so they actually fit in your mouth,as opposed to the super-size portion many sushi restaurants favor.
They also offer a great happy hour menu. I highly recommend the wasabi drizzled Dancing Shrimp and Caterpillar Roll. The lychee martini is smooth perfection in a glass, and for $4 at happy hour it's a steal.
The service is efficient and friendly, and though the space is small, it can accommodate groups, making it happy hour friendly for those after work soirees.
Nijo is a welcome addition to the Seattle sushi scene.
- Pros: Great atmosphere, cool location, and perfectly sized sushi
- Cons: Parking can be difficult
Overall Great Place!

After discovering Nijo I have been ruined for other popular sushi places in Seattle. The happy hour cannot be beat, the service is quite good, and the scene is very unique. The chefs really know what they are doing and it shows with the consistent quality that they produce with each roll. I have never been one to branch out for fear of not liking what I try but every time I have done so at Nijo, I have not been disappointed.
This restaurant is one of the best kept secrets in Seattle - I highly recommend trying this place especially if you consider Umi, Wasabi, or Rain to be your favorites.
- Pros: Creative Rolls, Good Prices, Amazing Happy Hour
- Cons: Parking
Best in Seattle!
by SushiRoxx at Citysearch
I am puzzled by the bad reviews as this place has been better all the way around than any other places I've gone (Umi, Wasabi Bistro, I Love Sushi). I've never had slow service and one thing I LOVE about this place is that they ALWAYS have items that other places only get occasionally or run out of (certain types of tuna like Toro, etc). The quality is top notch! It is inexpensive compared with over-rated places like Umi (talk about BAD service), and the rolls are done RIGHT...rolled like they do in Japan...narrow and long so they are bite size and don't fall apart. I'm guessing some of the reviewers on here either work at other competing sushi places or they have never experienced REAL sushi like you get in Japan. I have many years of experience dining on sushi and this place is my favorite! BTW...if you just want to enjoy some DJ music, have a drink and maybe a roll or two, the bar is fun on weekends.
- Pros: Rolls are rolled long and bite size so don't fall apart
- Cons: Sometimes crowded
unacceptable

using one simple word: CARELESS.
Food was mediocre (for Seattle) and customer service non existent!!!
I read a few bad reviews before I went but since I work in the industry, I know that only bitter people actually take the time to write nasty reviews... not the case. This place will truly ruin your night!!!
- Pros: good location

If sushi is not your forte there is an abundance of other choices on the menu such as Wild Mushroom Saute, Filet Mignon Tartare or Filet Mignon and Lobster Tail combination. Nijo's chef delighted the most discriminating tastes for years while employed at Cutters, Nikko, Ototo and Mikado. The ambience is hip and the restaurant offers a live DJ on Friday and Saturday nights.
