Great Happy Hour!. I love going to Del Rey! The staff has always been friendly and reasonably attentive. The food is surprisingly good! While I may miss the old days when Belltown was a little ruff around the edges, Del Rey gets me back there. I like to go early in the week when all the suburban crowds are safely out of distance.
Amazing brunch & Detroit Coney Dogs on Monday Nights!!!.
I love Del Rey. As it's a block away from my place, I am there quite a bit, on different days of the week... This is going to be a long review because there is so much to mention!
I'll break it down by days of the week.
Monday. OK, I'm from Detroit... so is the manager and some of the staff. One day the manager got a great idea to order Coney Dogs from Koegels in Detroit. Best idea ever and so the start of Motown Monday. The coney sauce is the same as the sauce that Leo's & National Coney uses back home. Also, coney fries, too!! Plus, on top of it, real Vernor's in the Vernor's cocktails, not fake gingerale. It's a Detroiter in Seattle's dream come true! The music is even Detroit themed with Detroit artists. Amazing.
Tuesday has alt country and has Marji Makers (she is a DJ for KEXP) spinning, plus drink specials.
Wednesday is adult trivia! Seriously, the best trivia in Seattle. It's funny, sexy and smart trivia. The prizes cannot be beat, they include sex toys, town car gift cards, Veuve champagne, tattoo gift cards, hotel stays. It is super fun, especially with a group of girlfriends.
Thursday is 70's rock night. There is a live DJ in the front room and some nights it gets pretty crazy... I'm talking shots and conga line. Def a good time, silly fun.
Friday & Sat night I tend to avoid Del Rey. I am a Belltowner and just like to go on Belltowner nights. Though sometimes it is fun to drink and make fun of the people who applied way too much self tanner and forgot to put pants on and just wear a long shirt that is supposed to be passing for a dress?
Saturday & Sunday days, however, are amazing. Del Rey has brunch and it's probably one of my fav affordable brunches in the city. Most items are under 8 dollars and are large enough to take some home to eat as an afternoon snack. My favorites are the breakfast burrito (vegetarian) and the Del Rey hash. There are a ton of veggie options and a special of the day on Sunday.
Also, Sunday nights they have a DJ in the front room that spins old school soul. It's a great place to hang out with friends at one of the large booths and just unwind from your crazy weekend.
Cocktails!! Del Rey makes some of the best margaritas. They actually infuse tequila in house with different things like jalapeno, habanero, berries, etc in order to make amazing margaritas. The bartenders are great and if it's slow they will play around with alcohols and create random, but amazing, drinks.
The happy hour is great, too. Food is $5 and includes things that pass as a full meal like the pulled pork sandwich with fries or the chicken quesadilla, which is huge. They have $3 drafts $4 wells and get this... 1/2 off every tequila they have on the menu, and they have over 100 tequilas.
All in all, if you have been hesitant to try Del Rey because you think it's a stupid First Ave bar... Go in on a week day evening and I'm sure your mind will change. Better yet, try happy hour on the patio in the summer or sit in the big booths by the windows (which open wide) and watch the ferries glide by as you sip your inexpensive, but yummy, happy hour drink.
ugly dirty stinks. The staff is ugly and rude. The bouncers wish that they were tall enough to get a real police jobs. WTF and nobody cares!! Then they want a GOOOOD tip..yeah right. stupid people might as well give it to the street people outside the club.. BTW LOTS of violence in the area. Not a good place for woman alone or in groups to arrive safely, get a taxi to the door or a driver to keep you safe.
Tequila!. Try the tequila cosmo!! I love this bar. It is a highlight of Belltown and never gets old. You can even return in the morning for brunch!
Awesome happy hour view. Not a huge fan of mexican food, but this place is awesome for happy hour, great drink specials, cool vibe, good music, and nice view of elliot bay from the patio out front
Happy hour is good, but not the best. I've only been to Del Rey for happy hour (a couple of times), so I can't comment on anything else. Compared to other happy hours, I'd say there food is pretty good and the prices are ok. I've been to cheaper happy hours with better food. Del Rey is middle of the road as far as taste and price. Service is also just pretty good. If you haven't been there, try it out, but don't expect to be blown away.
I'm a fan of Del Rey!. I went to Del Rey for the first and only time last summer. I met my fiance there that night, so I highly recommend the place!
best happy hour. I've been here several times and the bar is nothing special. service is usually okay. the happy hour prices are unbelievable. the food is pretty good, I've definetly had better, but not bad. but for the value, it can't be beat.
Swanky lounge for young professionals/20-somethings.
Del-Rey is one of my favourite spots to go to in Belltown, especially on First Ave. I've been here on both a slow night (Wednesday) and busy nights (Friday, Saturday), but in both scenarios, when I've managed to snag a table, the waitresses has been both decent and super friendly. The atmosphere is a perfect combo of sophistication meets chill; the dim red lights and decor give Del-Rey a very seductive feel.
One of the best things I love about Del-Rey is their late happy hour. I've only had their mac-n-cheese, and while it's nothing TOO special, it's a tasty snack when one is tipsy at a non-too-shabby price of $4. The drinks are a bit more expensive (naturally), but wonderful -- I would recommend their appletini. The drinks are usually made pretty strong too, so that's always a plus!
If you're looking for a more laid-back atmosphere, Del-Rey isn't the place for you. On busy nights, it can be quite the meat market, and the music will be blasting far too loud for casual conversation level. And even though Del-Rey can become crowded rather quickly on busy nights, I've always had fun conversations with the random strangers I've met there. It may be a meat market, but there hasn't been too much sleaziness. Also, try to come here with a group on busy nights -- you'll appreciate the place much more!
E-X-C-E-P-T-I-O-N-A-L. I just held my "welcome to the 3rd decade" cocktail party at Del Rey's Party Room and I couldn't have wished for a more attentive staff, great food (thanks to the magic of Chef Kurtis!) and amazing drinks. The night went on so smoothly that all my guests couldn't believe that it was already 2 in the am and we had to leave already!!! If you ever need to host a private party --- Del Rey is the best place!!!
