Too pricey for poor service and stingy portions

by Jamega at Citysearch

I was very disappointed with the overpriced food, stingy portions, and poor service. I came here with my husband on a Wednesday evening at 5:30 when the restaurant wasn't busy. Our food was okay at best. I ordered the chicken tikka masala; the flavor was bland and the chicken scanty. The rice was not included in the price of the meal; it was almost $4 extra and not enough to serve two.

The staff was lackadaisical and unfriendly. We waited an inordinate amount of time for our check, then no one came back to pick up our credit card to perform the transaction. When we finally got the attention of the waitress again, she pointed to another woman and said, "she'll come and get it in a minute". Not acceptable. Not going back. Waste of $40 I should have spent elsewhere.

Obnoxious owner and unwelcoming customer service

by bluefly1 at Citysearch

I was a regular at Naan N Curry, the staff had my order MEMORIZED and they knew me by NAME. The owner was always nice and gracious. I brought several friends to this restaurant and all had a great experiences! On the second to last visit I brought a good friend and when the food came one dish was unexpectedly ordered. When I asked what it was the owner came over and smirked telling me that it was what I ordered. Never having this dish and not even knowing how to pronounce the name, I told him I did not order this and that I wanted the channa masala that I order every time! After trying to convince me that was what I ordered he told the waitress, " Go get her what she wants!" very rudely and continued trying to convince me that it was my fault! He gave us very nasty looks and we e ignored the rest of our meal.we were alittle hurt after that experience but decided to give them another try thinking maybe he was having a bad day or maybe it was just me. The second time we came, we thought service was better until they ignored us again acting as if they had know idea we were there! They served and welcomed everyone else even when they left us for 30 MINUTES! we were trying to make eye contact and wave someone down and they passed us and served the man sitting behind us never returning to our table. Finally someone asked us if we wanted boxes, not how our food was or if we enjoyed it. Then we sat another 15 MINUTES until we decided to go up front and pay for our food with out our check. The owner and staff used to treat me very well with the utmost respect and I was excited to bring friends there. Now I am sad to say that I will not be going back.

Truly Impressive Pakistani / Northern Indian Food

by petergv at Citysearch

Wow... seriously: This has GOT to be the best Pakistani and North Indian food in the area. It certainly goes directly to the head of MY list.

The restaurant was recommended to me by a work colleague. I was soooo glad for the recommendation! I had been searching for YEARS for a restaurant in the area with an authentic Northern Indian or Pakistani taste... but nothing seemed that good to me. Decent? Sure.... but really GOOD? Never. Until I found THIS place, which is just outstanding.

I had the Chicken Karahi and the Lamb Biryani. The Karahi had gorgeously ripe tomato pieces, and that sauce! WONDERFUL. I've never been a big fan of Biryanis... I always found them sort of boring. But the Lamb Biryani was recommended, and it was truly excellent. The lamb wasn't over cooked and was extremely tasty. The sauce on the rice was exeptional.

The naan was also tender and delicious.

The dining room has pleasantly loud buzz, with folks having a good time. The service was friendly and prompt.

I'll definitely be back... HIGHLY recommended.

I want to go to Renton

by WanderinginSodo at Citysearch

This place is indeed a gem.

I heard positive reviews about this place from a classmate, so two friends and I decided to drive from Seattle to try it out. The experience surpassed expectations and will make me a regular. First off, the graciousness of the father-son owners was apparent from the moment we walked in the door. We legitimately felt welcomed by Shan, the son. We didn't know what we wanted so we got recommendations- naan (basically mandatory), the tandori fish, an almond curry and a green malasla (all of which have more specific names that I can't recall).

The white fish was especially good with the perfect amount of seasonings and little fishiness. While the fish wasn't cheap, it was worth the price since the portion was huge (4 large pieces), so it's an excellent item to share. While I loved both of the other items, the almond curry wins points for its uniqueness. It didn't have an overly almond flavor, but it was more dynamic than other curries I have had without being too strong in flavor. Although the chicken was really tender, it's one of those dishes that you want to make sure you consume all of the sauce, preferably with naan.

We hadn't intended on getting dessert. We were really full, but we all figured that the homemade rice pudding and ice cream were worth a try. Yes, they were. Whatever warm pastry they had in the middle of the rice pudding was sinfully good.

Great place. Worth the drive down to Renton.

  • Pros: Food, graciousness
  • Cons: not close to home

Great Food AND OWNER

by awsmark at Citysearch

I can't understand complaints about the owner when my family and I have eaten there many times and have had a great time with the owner, and everyone else. My daughter has been to India so that probably makes a difference, but he is still friendly to everyone I could see. Food is fantastic as well. My wife and daughter have both been to India, daughter three times, and this is their favorite "authentic" establishment. We have a great time every time we eat there!

  • Pros: Food
  • Cons: too far from where I live :)
