What People Are Saying About Persimmon Dinner

The Scene – This little Fremont storefront charms with deco fixtures, a retro diner counter, and an eclectic mix of art hung on walls the color of its namesake fruit-which also decorates the tables. The tiny kitchen and single server make for a meal that's rather slow-paced while diners converse happily over quiet jazz background music. – – The Food – Start with a smoky, gamey duck liver pate lidded with a thick layer of fat and served with terrific grainy stone-ground mustard, or try a small plate of crispy potato pancakes topped with pretty smoked salmon and…
Editor's Tips
- Look Good:
- You'll be hailed as a hero for ordering (and sharing!) the molten chocolate cake with its airy, souffle-like top layer and side dish of unsweetened whipped cream.
- Where to Sit:
- Ask to be seated in the deep red, retro-Asian back room to up the romance factor---and you can ask them to turn down the lights.

I just happen to be walking by Persimmon and noticed it was all taped up so you couldnt see inside. It stated "hunger restaurant coming soon"...AND there is a liquor application on the window...HOw cool is that?? A cool new restaurant with a full bar coming to our neighborhood??!!...Their website is listed as well, it looks amazing!! www.hungerseattle
does anyone know about this?
- Pros: New Restaurant coming to town
Seriously flawed dinner experience

We were really hopeful when we happened across Persimmon in Fremont. The restaurant is warm and welcoming and the staff friendly. Too bad the food is overpriced, portions small and the flavors mediocre. The anchovies in the Caesar dressing were overpowering. I had a Ruben for $13.50 and for that price I'd expect a decent portion of pastrami. The sandwich was piled high with sauerkraut and little meat. The 4 cheese Mac and Cheese had very little Mac or Cheese and instead was mostly breadcrumbs and cream sauce.
Dessert topped off the disappointing evening. We were served a small portion of Apples on a truly tiny puff pastry. The flavor was good but the sauce was runny and there was not much more than 3 or 4 bites to the whole thing.
We ended up paying $25 each without drinks. That was WAY too expensive for the quality and quantity of food we were served. What a disappointment, we won't be back.
- Pros: Nice atmosphere, staff
- Cons: Mediorcre food, small portions, high prices
Worst Restaurant Experience Ever
by Durbee at Citysearch
It's cute on the outside and inside, but you can't eat ambiance. We were told it would be 15 minutes before our table would be ready. What the waitress should have said was 45 minutes (because that's how long it actually took). Just as the waitress started to take our order, she would then start helping someone else (this happened several times). We were not served our drinks until just before the food was served. The food was bland and and the prosciutto was overcooked and rubbery. After the food was delivered, service stopped. We could no longer get refills on our drinks or get additional silverware. Once we managed to flag her down for the check, service resumed with with refills and silverware (doesn't help when we've already finished our meal). Getting the bill took forever as well, as did getting change. Summary: got there at 11:30; paid $30 for tap water, veggie hash and prosciutto omelet; and left at 1:30, still hungry and super-annoyed. My husband and I know when restaurants have their act together (as restaurant critiquing is a hobby of ours) and Persimmon did not. The only thing that could have made this experience worse is if I had found a hair in my food. My husband and I will not ever go back there. EVER.
- Pros: Cute atmosphere, located near otehr cute shops
- Cons: the food and service
Can't beat simple ingredients prepared in an expert manner!

We've only been to Persimmon for brunch, but each time we've come we've really enjoyed it! I love their omelettes; the Gouda and mushrooms sauteed with thyme had a wonderful complex flavor despite the simple ingredients. The lox and dill mascarpone omelette is delicious as well. Friends have tried the corned beef hash and recommended it, and the lox crepes are simply spectacular.
There's a reason why we tend to head to Persimmon for brunch - can't beat simple ingredients prepared in an expert manner!
Aweful, truely aweful food

We have been meaning to go to this place for awhile. It's small, in our neighborhood, and the menu looks great. The service was fantastic- we were waited on by the owner but the food was insulting. We ordered a 26 dollar steak only to have one third of it be inedible gristle and wide streaks of sour tasting fat. Not only was this a poor quality steak but I am sure this was a steak close to turning bad. We also order a nicosse salad at around $15. The tuna was from a can and was overly salted. Most of the vegetables in the salad were not fresh but frozen. We went in the middle of July. There is no reason a resturant should be serving frozen beans at the peak of bean season. We also ordered wine and were served a few decent if overly priced glasses. But without fail the server (owner) topped off my boyfriend's glass significantly more than mine. This was especially irritating/insulting since I was the one picking up the tab.
