Iconic Seattle beer bar, known for its sours and Belgium selections with plenty of local brews to spare. Food is French Quarterly and NW.
Beer, Frites, oh yeah did I mention the racism?.
Not only is Brouwers rude toward non-americans (see Bazzer1978's review below), they are down right racist.
My wife tried to take me here for my 30th birthday. I was very excited to drink some great Belgian beer and try the frites. That was, until the tatted up, black-clad (seriously, he had black sunglasses and a black sweatband, wtf?), hard-core wannabe asked for ID. My ID passed fine, but when he saw my wife's green card he said, "We don't accept that ID here." Wait, what? It's a Federal ID. How can you not accept it? "The State Liquor Board can fine us." 100% Bull@#$%! You mean you don't want to let in my wife because she's a latina even though that green piece of plastic was bought and paid for with hard earned American dollars and is 100% legal? "We don't take that ID here." Well, they take it everywhere else. How do I know? Because I read the State Liquor Board Charter, not to mention that we went to another restaurant pub that same evening and my wife got in just fine.
I'm just glad we found out how ignorant the people at this place were before we ate their food. If you want great beer and fries, go to Fred Meyer, pick up a bottle of Chimay and grab some fries from Dick's on the way home. It's Seattle without the ignorant @#$% at the door!…
Best Beer Bar in Seattle/#3 in America.
Recently rated America's #3 beer hall by RateBeer--whatever that's worth--Brouwer's is something like Seattle Beer Museum (SBM?)--albeit a museum hopped up on hops and the Melvins. 60-some
international beers on tap, many Belgians unavailable anywhere else, plus another 300 varieties in bottles. Tatted and probably hungover, the staff is actually super friendly and knowledgeable enough to help you navigate the mind-boggling selection. Be prepared to spend some time and money getting to know the menu. It's worth it.
The food here is also good. Either style of mussel is fantastic (steamed in either cream sauce or white wine) and the cheese plate, though pricey, can be paired perfectly with beer.
And it's not all about beer--Brouwer's has one of the best single-malt Scotch selections in Seattle. Pick one or the other, though. The combo of strong beer and Scotch has put down many a highlander before his day.…
Maybe the best beer selection in Seattle. If you like IPA's then this is your place. 63 beers on tap and hundred at least in bottles. Not sure about the food since I only drank. Beer snobes, this is your place!
Come early!. A friend recomended that we try Brouwer's. And so began our adventure! I say this because we attempted to eat here three times! Unfortunately, they have abosolutely not concept of how to manage tables......In fact the third time (which was apparently the charm) was marred by this poblem even though we arrived far too early to really enjoy the evening. When my wife and I left our table, two groups nearly traded punches over our abondoned table. The space is open and interesting, but the free-for-all table method is simply ridiculous! With that aside, the food was truly excellent, but perhaps on the heavy side. I had the bison stew which was tender and rich which an earthy flavor I really enjoyed. My wife had the chicken which was well executed, moist with crisp skin. The cheese plate was nice but could have used more selection of breads. However the honey was a pleasant surprise compliment to the cheese. But this is a gastro pub and that should be expected. Further, the beer menu, even for a beer lover is daunting to say the least. The staff was slow, preoccupied AND rude when asked simple questions regarding some beers.....The beer menu is to die for, but at what cost? I would come back if reservations were accepted and the staff was more attentive, because the food was excellent (at least for a cold winter evening) and the beer menu speaks for its self. In sum, I would not recommend this place unless you have nothing to do and you don't care waiting at the entrance and then fighting over a dirty table when sombody leaves OR arrive at 5:15 so you can get in bed at 8:30.........Up side, parking is not an issue.…
