Editorial Review for Veil – by Bethany Jean Clement
The Scene
With its space-age padded lounge, pristine 18-seat communal table and sheer-screened dining room, Veil is a study in pure white modernism; pink-tinted lighting moves the mood from sterile to seductive. Closely set tables create a party atmosphere as the evening evolves, and servers do their best to keep the flow going.
The Food
The lovely, austere surroundings create a canvas for a changing menu that leans toward very pretty haute comfort food. Re-envisioned mac and cheese-trofie pasta, rich mascarpone cream, succulent lobster and lobster oil-gratifies decadently, while a super-crisp white asparagus salad with Dungeness crab gets a tart, slaw-like bite from Meyer lemon aioli. Entrees like dry-aged Kentucky beef, cooked medium rare and stacked atop a potato cake, bear thoughtful sauces and extras like foraged mushrooms. Peanut butter ice cream with a deconstructed homemade Nutter Butter hits savory, sweet, flaky and creamy; it may be the best thing at Veil (or anywhere).

Insider Tips
Save MoneyPosh snacks from the bar menu let you experience the Veil concept and luxe lounge atmosphere without the steep price tag.
What to DrinkChoose from a list of innovative specialty cocktails like Rosemary's Bellini, made with pear puree and scented with a sprig of its namesake herb.
Look GoodThe secret to the unisex bathrooms, located in a mysterious, unmarked row beyond the host stand: Choose a door and push slowly to open--with averted eyes, in case someone didn't fiddle with the interior lock (look along the metal handle) sufficiently to secure it.
Where to SitThe semi-private communal table can seat up to 18 and is a great option to reserve for birthday parties or other special dinners.

Once a month a group of us get together and go to different restaurants in the area, Veil was my pick and not a good one. I had high hopes though, the owner/chef had said he would be there and would come out and talk with our group before dinner to make recommendations and offer options. Upon arriving we found out he had left for the evening. The server was very nice but very slow because they were short staffed. Some liked their food, some did not the best part was the dessert. It took forever to get our drinks and the entire experience for 11 people took almost 4 hours which was entirely too long. The website made the appearance of the restaurant look very cool and modern, when you arrived it felt a bit cold and not as inviting as we would have liked. An unfortunate experience, I would stay away from Veil until they can get their overall customer experience at a better level all around.

really enjoyed the evening at Veil. The decor looked better on the website than in person but the staff is attentive and the food is surprisingly good. It was a rainy Wed night when I was there but the place was busy! Will go back again and try a couple of other dishes!
Pros: service, food
Cons: can be pricey
