What People Are Saying About Blackbird Bistro

The Scene – White mesh curtains reminiscent of mosquito netting divide the big mahogany booths at this cheerful California Avenue restaurant. Inventive light fixtures and pastel walls lend the space a comfortable, living room-esque feel, while the dramatic backlit bar adds some flair. A local family crowd in jeans and fleece vests comes in for the food and the atmosphere--the bistro makes nice night out without seeming stuffy. – – The Food – With a concentration on local, seasonal and organic, the menu has a lineup of simple yet flavorful dishes. Try the ahi tuna…
Editor's Tips
- Parking:
- Public parking is located one block east underneath Bartells--ask about validation.
- What to Drink:
- The restaurant infuses its own vodkas with flavors like ginger, kiwi, apple and espresso--order a Delicious Martini with espresso vodka and Grand Marinier or ask the server for cocktail recommendations.
All American fun
by SpecialPhysX at Citysearch
This is the new IT spot for casual dining! It's fun, it's more spacious than most, it's organic, seasonal, local. It's all American favorites done right! The staff engage with customers appropriately. The patrons are friendly folk. I personally found the bar to be less than accommodating or creative initially, but I think they may have stepped up their game back there. Anyway, the food is great. Parking is a little chancy
- Pros: Comfortable, cozy spaces where you don't feel assaulted by your neighbor's table talk
- Cons: I'd expand the bar service more creatively if it was up to me
Can't wait to go back!

My girlfriend and I had dinner here on Wednesday and it was fabulous. She had the Blue Cheese Chicken Roulade and I chose the ravioli. Her chicken was perfectly cooked and was served with really interesting but tasty mashed potatoes. My ravioli was good but nothing compared to the kale and other greens served on the side - delicious. Even our house salads were perfect with incredibly fresh ingredients. The atmosphere was warm and the service outstanding. I can't wait to go back.
Blackbird's got it going on

My partner dine at Blackbird at least once per week, and we've yet to have a meal that was less than great. The service is invariably friendly without being TOO friendly, and on occasion the chefs knock one out of the park--so try items on the fresh sheet if you've been there a few times. My favorite feature of "the bird" is how veg-friendly it is. Items that are vegan (or can be made vegan by simply ditching the parmesan) are noted on the menu with an icon, and there are always a couple vegetarian dishes that are very "foodie" and nicely done. Closing thought--the atmosphere manages to be funky, cozy, relaxing, sophisticated, and welcoming, all at the same time.
- Pros: Vegan options, fab service, awesome food
- Cons: None
Cold food...

We were excited to go the Blackbird Bistro yesterday for breakfast and ordered 2 different benedicts (our favorite)-- classic and italian. I was extremely disappointed and also surprised that the food was cold-- no warmer than room temperature. My surprise stemmed from the fact that there were only 3 other customer parties in the restaurant and the kitchen was literally 10 feet away from our booth-- no excuse for cold food. My boyfriend and I both felt that the food might actually have been good if it had actually been warm, but that wasn't the case. I was NOT impressed and won't be back again.
- Pros: beautiful restaurant
- Cons: cold food!
I love The Bird!

I love the Blackbird Bistro! Came in for breakfast a couple of times on the weekends. The scrambles and spicy hashbrowns are my favorite, or I get one of the benedicts on occasion. I went back for dinner the other day and was equally impressed. The mushroom stuffed meatloaf was delicious, and they offer a free movie ticket to the Admiral Theater next door when you get one of the entrees of the fresh sheet. I left very happy - and wil be back soon.
- Pros: Eating on the Patio when it's sunny
- Cons: No patio when it's raning...
