The Scene – The entire restaurant glows--inside and out--with soft warm light. Large windows overlook a well-planted courtyard, while small glass candles shine on every table. White linens, tall straight chairs, tile floors and special touches like a lichen-covered branch mounted to a center beam create a rare feeling of nature-inspired elegance. The staff works hard and does it with a smile. Menu recommendations and attention to small details are unending. – – The Food – The shareable pickle plate provides sweet, tart and shockingly hot flavors, with textures ranging…

Unaccomodating to people with food allergies

by rugbyrules05 at Citysearch

My family enjoys a good brunch and having heard about Boat Street Cafe we went there for fathers day last Sunday. While the ambiance was very appealing, the wait staff and food experience was not. In fact we found our waitress to be slow, uninformative and very uncooperative when it came to service and ordering our food.

My wife is Celiac and cannot eat food items with gluten (wheat, flour, etc.). We are very used to this issue and most all restaurants in Seattle are very accommodating to this dietary restriction. Obviously pancakes and French toast are not able to be substituted, but certain items like eggs benedict can be made while omitting the English muffin. In fact I would expect this to take less time for the chef to prepare as it omits a step in the process.

However, when we asked the waitress what breakfast items were gluten free she said the egg scrambles were. They only had two on the list and one had fish and the other listed that it came with a baguette. My wife did not want fish this morning and pointed out that the other one came with bread. We then asked if we could order an eggs benedict without the English muffin and she said no. We asked if we could order the baked egg dish without bread crumbs and she said “no, why don’t you just get a scramble and I can tell them to leave out the baguette.”

Ultimately, the waitress agreed to a simple egg scramble with tomatoes and cheese, which wasn’t even on the menu. I was in shock that they could not or were not willing to change one menu item, but could create an item not even on the menu. The scramble was ordinary and somewhat plain (something we could have made at home), but came with an expensive price tag at about $12.

On top of all that we had a party of 5 so they added an automatic 20% gratuity to the bill. We were robbed of the opportunity to provide immediate feedback as to their lackluster service and inability to accommodate people with food allergies. We will most certainly not be returning to Boat Street Café, especially for family celebrations.

Delicious food and romantic setting

by sonia g at Citysearch

We had a great dinner here last night. The food was delicious and I love the atmosphere. It is romantic but not cramped. It is a cheery place that serves serious food without going too over the top. They have staples like pot de creme and steak for dinner while offering more adventuresome items if you feel like it. I love this place.

  • Pros: the food, the wine, the atmosphere
  • Cons: I can't think of anything.

Great brunch!

by queenanne11 at Citysearch

Went for brunch on Sunday based on hearing good things. Loved it! The space was beautiful, food was delish, service was polite. It was a little more pricey than some places for brunch, but the food is 100 times better. Look forward to trying it for dinner.

  • Pros: great change of pace from greasy brunch food

Just ok, GREAT mimosa's!

by seattle36 at Citysearch

Finally found it!

Once in there, it really is a cute restaurant. The menu left me pondering what to order! Everything sounded so delicious.

We started off our day with a few mimosa's. Probably the best I've ever had! We were enjoying our mimosa's so much that we didn't even realize that it took almost 45 minutes just to get our food. Once we got it, the poached eggs were overcooked. I ordered eggs benedict and one egg was fine, the other cooked through. What a dissapointment, if not for that the entire meal would've been very delicious. We shared the bread pudding for dessert. That was very delicious and a very big portion!

They were pretty busy, we got there right when they opened and didn't leave til almost two hours later since it took so long to get served. Definetely worth trying again though, especially for the mimosa's!
