the worst donuts i've ever experienced. this is the worst donut in Seattle. bland, not flavorful, not even fresh, on the day I spent my hard earned dough on them. In fact, after I had wasted my money on the worst donuts I've ever bitten into (no need to finish eating them .. they were that bad) I was watching a special on donuts on the Food channel the other day, and they did a segment on donuts in the NW that included Top Pot. They revealed that they use premade shipped-in dough, and only got into the donut business because the place they bought mysteriously and unexpectedly included an industrial donut machine, and they thought the machine looked good. yikes. no love here, except for the equipment. The only reason this place exists and still does business is because there are precious few and hard to find real donut shops around seattle. Top Pot stumbled upon an underserved market. yeah for them; too bad for Seattle. This falls under the category of "we love them because we don't know any better" kind of donuts. Maybe one day Seattle will get a dunkin' donuts or even a Tim Horton's franchise and everyone can get the sugarfix they need from a company that at least makes their own dough and attempts to offer some quality.

By the way -- I ran the St. Paddy's Day Dash last week and they were giving away Top Pot doughnuts as a promotion -- am I the only one who thought that these were seriously the worst tasting donuts ever? I was actually surprised that they would bother to give these out for free, as now thousands of runners will know how bad the product is. Is it just my tastebuds that are that off? I don't think so, but certainly, to each their own!

Try these donuts and you'll never try another donut again. I am one of the biggest donut enthusiasts around. I limit myself, however, because I could easily blimp out indulging on the things. So when it's time to treat myself to a donut, it HAS to be a Top ___(this did say the full name of the store, but CitySearch apparently won't let you use the second word of this company in your reviews. lol). I don't have an official Top ___ store in my neighborhood, so I always get my fix at Starbucks. And while some might say $1.50 is a bit high for a donut, I would beg to differ. Yes, that might be high for a Krispy Kreme or a Safeway donut. But not for one of these pieces of perfection. I don't know what Top ___ is doing, but they have truly mastered the art of donut making. I used to get everything from a maple bar to a Boston Creme. But since I tried Top Pots, I've become a purist. I now go for the old fashioned glazed. Wonderfully crunchy on the outside, and richly wonderful on the inside. Did I mention I like these donuts? It's no wonder they are popping up in Starbucks all over the country now. I see big things for the future of this local company. Go Top ___, go!

Pack a laptop and a big appetite when visiting the grooviest hole-y land in town.. In Short
Don't be swayed by names like "Pink Feather Boa" and "Double Trouble"; these gussied-up cake doughnuts are often greasy, although the peppery sweet flavor of mace shines in the unfrosted varieties. Airy raised doughnuts, like classic maple bars and lush cream-filled Bismarks, fare better and offer plenty of variety for the fickle. Sandwiches, all served on chewy rolls, are satisfying and flavorful; the smoky chipotle-laced Coyote and the herb-y tuna fish are equally tasty.
