Cozy, excellent service, good drinks (of what they have)
by eskercurve at Citysearch
After going to a local coffeehouse I was in the mood for some spirits. I've lived in the U for two years and never gave this bar a second glance. Though, as I was walking past it, it did advertise "Tapas", "Spirits", "Wine" ... everything I was looking for. So I walk in. It was rather quiet for a Saturday evening, but that just lent the atmosphere that much more coziness. I learned they have a good selection of Irish whiskeys, and rum. I started with a Jameson and then asked for a black & tan, but unfortunately they didn't have Bass ale, but the bartender quickly offered a black nut ale from England. It was delicious! Next was a mojito ... or thought so. They didn't have the ingredients to make one! They did have the ingredients for a margarita, which was very good and refreshing! Lastly I suggested a drink I first heard of in Japan: a black velvet. Not the Canadian whiskey, but a drink half Guiness half champagne. The bartender thought it interesting and offered it to me and tried some himself. Must've been the good champagne because it tasted different, but drinking here was wonderful. Relaxing atmosphere with perfect music and a knowledgable bartender means that while they may not offer your favorite drink, they will offer the very best of what they do have.
Pro: knowledgeable staff, very courteous and professional, nice atmosphere, very tasty drinks
Con: limited selection of spirits
- Pros: fast, courteous service, tasty top notch drinks
- Cons: limited drink selection
food a bit random, but comfy lounge with awesome service and intricately pretty lights

honeyblade7 nailed it with 'great place to dress up or dress down'. Super-comfy if you''re weary from travelling and want somewhere to lounge & regroup. The ceiling lights are extraordinarily pretty, and good for admiring vacantly; the crisp barstaff backchat will bring you back to life. My steak with blue-cheese butter was yummy. The missus is a vegetarian, and got all excited about the butternut squash pasta special (she loves butternut squash) -- but when it came out, it contained no squash, although plenty of butter. Our bartender/waiter went and investigated -- it seems there had been a tragic Spanish-English mistranslation -- but they compensated us by improvising a new pasta dish with a cream sauce of grilled vegetables, which was great. So, on the one hand, I wouldn't pick this as a venue for a must-be-perfect sort of dinner; but on the other hand, if anything does happen to go wrong, the staff will goodhumoredly go all-out to save the day.
- Pros: plush interior; easy-humored, sassy, fix-anything staff
- Cons: not much on the menu for vegetarians
Excellent service and fresh pasta

The District has several specials on their menu that varies nightly. I have personally had their pasta special several times and it has always been excellent. If you're an adventerous type and like to try different dishes then this may be the best place around. The Bartenders are fast and friendly. If you're staying in the Hotel DECA then the District lounge is a must for dinner and drinks.
- Pros: Great food, super service,
- Cons: Could up their Bourbon selection with Bookers and/or K*** Creek
