The Scene
Gray flowered wallpaper matches the wood-imprinted concrete walls of this intimate restaurant, highlighting its flawless meld of casual and fancy. The dining room is separated into two distinct spaces by a tall red bench; tables are elegantly appointed with candles and white tablecloths without making the atmosphere too formal. Patrons tend to be older Francophiles and foodies, but there's a healthy smattering of youngsters eager to try the authentic dishes.

The Food
The menu draws heavily on traditional French fare, including a complex and satisfying onion soup and a decadent chicken liver parfait. Mussels, a popular main course, are cooked with Cremant sparkling wine, cream, parsley and hunks of bacon. Steak tartare is a meaty indulgence of Kobe sirloin hand-chopped with herbs and capers. Desserts feature the usual French favorites, plus the chef's heavenly cognac chocolate--a mix of cognac, chocolate and cream in a small glass.

Chef Brendan McGill created a custom vegetarian menu for my boyfriend's 32nd birthday, working with me find the perfect 5-course dinner, expertly paired with wines. We enjoyed our dinner in the comfortable private dining room (a separate building in the back of the restaurant). We had TONS of great food (the creme brulee is AMAZING) and the staff, especially our server, Andrew, helped create a memorable night, much needed at a tough time in our lives. I am very grateful for the personal service and care shown for me and my guests .

I was a bit hesitant after reading the mixed reviews but my friend lives within walking distance of the restaurant and we wanted to try the 3 for 30 menu. I was not disappointed. I had the cassoulet and she had the boeuf bourgignon and both were outstanding. It is the kind of food you fantasize about making at home, if you had the right ingredients and three days to prep and cook. The beans in the cassoulet were perfectly cooked and the sausage and duck leg added depth. The beef was falling apart tender and the sauce was to die for. The fromage and chocolat chaud & froid were just the right flavors to end the meal. Service was a bit slow - we were there about 2 1/2 hours, which is fine for a special occassion, but that would be a negative on a normal weeknight when you want to duck in somewhere for a bit to eat and out in an hour or so. They could have used another server and we were charged for drinks we did not order (graciously adjusted), which kept this from being a five star experience.
