The Coyote on Alki is Hurtin'

Bad food! Don't go there until you hear that they have made a major change for the better. Why someone would be in such a location with such an opportuntiy for success and not be able to deliver on even basic Mexican food quality is beyond me. Apparently after being in business now for over a year and getting a number of bad reviews that essentially say the same thing over and over about food quality, they can't seem to get the message and make changes. I love Mexican food and I feel like I can easily deal with a lot of variation but this place hits the outer limits. Family owned and apparently someone in the family thinks they have cook's meow in new wave Mexican food. Wrong! Even if you could handle the taste, the lack of trim and care in preparation is enough to turn me away. This place needs a new set of recipes, chef, food manager or something. Lacking some changes in food quality, it is not worth a visit.
An optimist disappointed :(

I love most restaurants and was excited to see a new Mexican place on Alki. Unfortunately, after 3 visits, I won't be returning. I expect a bad night every once in a while, but Coyote's is a a big disappointment. Every time I have visited the service has been poor. Two out of my three visits I was overcharged. Also, I have tried several dishes and they are soggy and greasy. My friend teased that we actually got soft tacos, not hard. On my most recent visit there were only about 4 tables of people during a peak hour on a sunny day...if that's not the sign of a poor restaurant on Alki I don't know what is.
Rude service, Low quality food, Great View......

First off, our server scolded us for seating ourselves on the patio after waiting to be seated for 7 minutes with no one helping us (no wait or line, just us standing in front of hostess stand being ignored by our eventual server while she gossiped in the bar.).
Our waitress nearly made us leave. After that we gave her our drink order 3 different times and she still forgot it. We ordered beans for a starter with our chips and that took 10 minutes. We got about 7 bites before our food came.
We split the Prawn Fajitas for $12.ish.... The prawns were flavorless and low quality tiny bay shrimp. The onions & peppers were over cooked in oil ad sloppy. The teaspoon side of guacamole lasted for 1 tortilla. O ya...... only 4 tortillas come with the order. (Tortillas were raw and cold.) Our meal was poor by every standard.
The Mojitos were lackluster & weak.
It seemed the hostess was doing the job of 4 people and was the only person running around.
The view and patio seating was excellent. Great location (parking on a sunny night is hell!)
If you want an Alki view to eat, try anything else. If you want an upscale Mexican place in W. Seattle try the Matador. They succeed on what Coyote tries but fails.
I will not eat there again nor recommend it!
- Pros: Great patio seating and View...
- Cons: Bad quality food badly cooked. weak drinks and rude service
