In Short – Nestled in-between Plaid Pantry and Subway in an Eastlake strip mall is this shining jewel of local, sustainable, farm-to table (insert buzzword) cuisine. Tattooed chef/owner Matthew Dillon launched his empire within the lime-green walls, since vaulting to celebrity status, opening The Corson Building and winning national awards by the handful. A massive chalkboard announces the daily menu, full of adventurous options like fiddlehead fern salad and whole branzino--fresh food in a homey environment. Dillon has created an outpost for a family of foragers, farmers, and food…
Disappointed and over Hyped
by goodfood55
Sorry ,we wanted to like it but we were really disappointed .... service was slow slow slow ....absolutely no interior style or charm .... the food was good but nothing special & portions for the prices were way out of line... there are too many other great ,innovative restaurants around town with better food ,service & style.. we heard so many good things before stopping by we actually thought we might be in the wrong place ....we were told later owner & chief was on to another project ... he had better come back and check this one before it sinks beneath the water on Lake Union
Arrogant attitude
by SamKetcham
What a bummer to have such good food combined with such a poor attitude! i went last Saturday night, late August 2008, with friends from out of town who know food and travel to good restaurants all over the world and I was embarrassed by the arrogance of the wait staff. My friend asked about a slight change to one of the menu items and the waiter made her feel foolish for asking. That same waiter continued with a blase and haughty air the entire night. The food was quite good - especially the octopus and the pork belly, and the desserts were fantastic - but i would never consider going back to face such a goofy attitude; there's good food available at a bunch of Seattle restaurants, but great places also understand the merits of good service. These guys at Sitka will learn the hard lesson that they're not good enough chefs to overcome their arrogance.
- Pros: Great food quality
- Cons: Embarrassingly arrogant
Very Good but It Didn't Knock My Socks Off

A friend and I dined at Sitka and Spruce last night, arriving at 5:30 p.m. and securing a nice table immediately. Unlike the experience of some diners, we had a terrific server who was informed about the food and wine, and she made our dining experience memorable. I liked the intimate size of the restaurant, and the noise level never became unbearable. We ordered three dishes from the blackboard which was, incidentally, a little difficult to read, and a nice bottle of wine. I thought all the dishes were very good, but none entered the relm of truly memorable, and prices did seem a little high. Dessert of a pine nut tort with rhubarb sauce was indeed excellent, and I would return to the restaurant again. I thought some of the combinations of ingredients were remarkable, and everything did taste fresh and delicious.
- Pros: Unusual combinations of ingredients
- Cons: A little pricy
