Editorial Review for BOKA Kitchen + Bar – by Jill Lightner
The Scene
From relaxing leather armchairs to the curvy banquettes, the seating is comfortable and intimate. Subtle colors and patterns feel trendy without stealing the focus from the food and companionship, while upscale touches of glass art and color-changing walls make for a modern downtown vibe. The staff has a way of disappearing--bring patience, or provide them with advance notice if there's a specific dinner deadline.
The Food
Tiny "urban bites" are sized to supply a very light snack--the biscuits heaped with tender pulled pork are the most substantial choice. Entrees hit the right note, ranging from perfect salt and pepper salmon with brown lentils to a juicy slab of New York steak paired with cream-laden spinach and fontina mac-n-cheese. Finish with a sophisticated cheese plate or a delightful candle-topped red velvet cake.

Insider Tips
What to DrinkTry the sweet Plum Lotus--lychee-infused vodka mixed with plum wine, with a garlish of lychee and umbrella.
Where to SitGrab a big booth in the back to survey the territory, or snag a bar seat on the curvy red couch for front-and-center action.
When to GoThe crowd is noticeably younger immediately after work and after 9pm. The hours between fill in with tourists and couples heading to a show.
ParkingValet parking is available for $9.50. Head north on First Avenue and pull up to the corner at Madison Street.
Happy HourHappy hour (Mon-Fri 3pm-6pm, 10pm-12am) offers half-priced bar menu items and deals on drinks.

for mothers day this past sunday, eight of my guests and myself had brunch here. we were treated very kindly by the staff, the 2 hostesses and our server. we all left very satisfied. the portions were perfect, not too much food, but just enough! they serve local breads from the macrina bakery. their menu is diverse enough that everyone in my party could pick something they like, from a kobe burger to belgian waffles for the kids. i would recommend their brunch to anyone who is looking for an intimate daytime meal for a special occasion. we all enjoyed everything. Their assorted mimosas were great too!
Pros: great service
Cons: 9.50 for valet?

The subtlely responsive service of the wait staff, the techno asian ambience and the superb, thoughtful menu by Chef Angie is just divine, DEEvine. Those Foodies that want to treat the palate to something unique should not miss a evening out at Boka, truly. I found my taste buds doing the tango with Fire 'n Ice --- the seared pepper encrusted ahi topped with fresh nutty sprouts swimming in soy with a tiny scoop of melon sorbet to the side. Oh, so simple but what a journey each bite was. You can create interest with unusual combinations of ingredients, but in my book if you prepare veggies keeping their texture's integrity, then you can cook. And Chef Angie proved just that with her vegetable soup as even the fresh peas still had their little snap. Ah, great meals are fun to recount and I recall it all though I ate there over a week ago. Really, go to Boka for a fine experience at the table. The price is quite fair considering the artful menu.
