In Short
This pretty, feminine room is a classy Capitol Hill hideaway--gauzy red curtains hide it from the street, while the warm color scheme, modern tin ceiling and effusive wait staff create a cozy atmosphere inside. All eight specialty cocktails come solo or paired with small bites to enhance their flavor--try the Renaissance, made with brandy, sweet vermouth, limoncello and bitters, paired with a foie gras bon bon.

Licorous has gotten a ton of rave reviews, so many I think that folks end up being disappointed as the menu is a bit overly complex for what you actually end up eating. The small plates are so tiny and even a bit tasteless. The drinks were quite tasty, a little light on the liquor for what they cost. Go there for a glass of wine while waiting on your table at Lark.

this is my new favorite late night spot. they are open late every night. the service was awesome and unpretentious. the drinks were well mixed and the food very good. they had the heat cranked way up, but that is my only complaint. we had most of the menu there, but the things that stuck out were the braised boar cheeks- so good and well seasoned. the boca negra was ethereal- light and decadent at the same time. the foie gras bonbons were not very memorable, but my french 75 was the best I've had ever.

I recently went to Licorous after reading many raving reviews. So,I was really looking forward to my experience. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. We ordered some cocktails, after our waitress slammed 4 water glasses on the table: reminicent of a German brew hall. Our drinks came promptly and all the guests were very happy with their choices. We ordered pairings, but only one of us got our with our drinks. The other pairings came at scattered times, one got their pairing after she had already finished her drink. We all ordered food and these too came at scattered times: which was not made known to us: my friends weren't sharing that night. One guest didn't get his meal until 40 minutes after I got mine! very strange, indeed. Regardless of the waiting time, the food was mediocre, if not bad. I ordered mushrooms and they were salty and greasy: the two tuna plates, again too much salt. The mussels were fantastic though: very plump and juicy. The pear dessert is to die for as are the financiers: chocolate pudding was horrible; couldn't even finish it. One waitress friendly, if a bit too bubbly, I felt like I was in a college hangout, and the other (the German one) seemed really dazed. Overall ambience was good: lighting, seating arrangements I liked. I would go back because it's near my home, but will eat beforehand and just get dessert.
