Editorial Review for Licorous – by Anna Roth

In Short
This pretty, feminine room is a classy Capitol Hill hideaway--gauzy red curtains hide it from the street, while the warm color scheme, modern tin ceiling and effusive wait staff create a cozy atmosphere inside. All eight specialty cocktails come solo or paired with small bites to enhance their flavor--try the Renaissance, made with brandy, sweet vermouth, limoncello and bitters, paired with a foie gras "bon bon."

Licorous has gotten a ton of rave reviews, so many I think that folks end up being disappointed as the menu is a bit overly complex for what you actually end up eating. The small plates are so tiny and even a bit tasteless. The drinks were quite tasty, a little light on the liquor for what they cost. Go there for a glass of wine while waiting on your table at Lark.

Pros: i had great service and a unique drink

Cons: food is a bit overrated, descriptions far outweigh actual taste

this is my new favorite late night spot. they are open late every night. the service was awesome and unpretentious. the drinks were well mixed and the food very good. they had the heat cranked way up, but that is my only complaint. we had most of the menu there, but the things that stuck out were the braised boar cheeks- so good and well seasoned. the boca negra was ethereal- light and decadent at the same time. the foie gras bonbons were not very memorable, but my french 75 was the best I've had ever.

Pros: late night food, ambience

Cons: parking
