Home furnishings and paintings with a distinct Asian aesthetic separate this boutique.
Incredible, unique items with amazing customer service--how do you beat it?!?!?!?

I am OBSESSED with this store! :) I buy a piece or two from Year of the Monkey every year and have been thrilled with both the product and the experience each time. I am impressed not only with the extensive selection, but the incredible level of customer service that is provided. Not a single visit from friends at my place goes by without people commenting on my gorgeous pieces I have purchased from Year of the Monkey. I joke (only half-joke, actually) about purchasing a larger home so that I can continue to buy even more new pieces--there is always SOMETHING extremely tempting in the store!
- Pros: Cool ambience, great selection, personalized service

What I really like about this store is that there's no pretense. Everyone there is super friendly. They're always willing to help out if you have questions, or just let you wander on their own. Their front showroom is all stripped down to the original floors and walls - the building is pretty old, judging from the wood beams on their ceiling. Sometimes their warehouse is messy, but that usually seems to be when they have a lot of things coming in or going out. My favorite items (which I keep threatening to buy one of these days) are this enormous stone top desk, which is a statement piece (but you'll need a lot of room for it) and these really low tea chairs (that's what they call them) which would be perfect for dragging myself out of bed on Saturday morning to slouch into and watch football. They've got lots of really different smaller things, too, some of which are kind of kitchy and others are just unbelievable.
- Pros: selection, atmosphere, people, service
- Cons: don't have enough room for all the stuff i find there
