What People Are Saying About Purple Cafe and Wine Bar

In Short – The large, airy room is dominated by a dramatic spiral staircase, winding its way around an immense 20-foot tower of 5,000 wine bottles. Floor-to-ceiling windows give a fishbowl view of Fourth Avenue. Wine is the big draw, of course: 14 flights have names like "lush and juicy" and "teethstainer," while the long list has an amazing variety of glasses and bottles. Food is upscale cafe fare, including sandwiches, pizzas, pasta and other entrees.
Great place to both have a great meal and people watch

Went to dinner there this past weekend....the food, wine, staff and other diners made for a great nite.
Thank you Purple Seattle!
- Pros: great wine selection
- Cons: nothing
great food, great wine
by bronschar8 at Citysearch
I walked into this place to meet some friends for dinner and drinks. Upon entering, I expected the atmosphere to be stuffy and uptight but it was just the opposite!
The wines that we ordered were all amazing and the food was spectacular.
The service was extremely slow and our server rarely checked in on us. She was very nice...maybe they just want you to relax and savor your wine? Either way, we all agreed that the service could be a bit more attentive.
We will definitely come back.
- Pros: food, wine
- Cons: extremely slow service
FUN & DIFFERENT

Purple is a fun restaurant for people who like small plates and sharing! The food was fantastic. Eat upstairs in the bar area as the seats are better than the dining room! Will certainly come back!

Great place for people who like to share
by crit101 at Citysearch
I thought the food and wine selection was excellent at Purple. I was a little hesitant to have my birthday celebration (it was a small gathering- only 4 people) at Purple because the reviews I had heard of it were always lukewarm. I am, however, really glad that we went. The tasting bar was a great way to share and try a lot of different types of dishes. We also shared the lobster mac-and-cheese which was a great idea since it was so rich. The flights of wine worked out well because we could try a lot of different kinds and then we ended up ordering a bottle of one that we liked in the flight. All-in-all it was a good meal. The atmosphere was also really nice and we enjoyed our server. The only thing we didn?t like were the chairs. I'm kinda petite (5'3") and had a really hard time sitting in the regular dining chairs for a long time. The chairs were so high and large that my feet couldn't touch the ground and I couldn't lean back without looking like a toddler trying to sit at the big kids table. There is a lounge area upstairs at the Seattle location and those chairs looked much more comfortable for us shorter people. But other than the ogre chairs (that's why they only got 4 stars- the chairs were that bad) I would definitely recommend the place.
- Pros: Good wine, food, and atmosphere
- Cons: ogre chairs
