In Short – Family-founded in the heart of Silicon Valley in 1985, Fry's has become a staple for technophiles in the Western U.S. Keeping up with the latest technological trends, it offers quality computer hardware and software, audio and video equipment and telecommunication products. Each store, which range in size from 50,000 to 180,000 square feet, decorates the aisles with its own unique theme--from Alice in Wonderland to Atlantis--making every shopping trip a fun experience.

Revenge of the Nerds!

by JHoward88 at Citysearch

Frys is orderly, massive, and features an in-house faux-sit down restaurant. It is fun to go there and look at all of the things which they sell; and if you are looking for some electronic item in particular, chances are you won't be disappointed.

The DVD selection is sizable, and features many titles which probably can't be purchased at any other area retailer.

The one odd thing I have noticed, however, is Fry's unique customer service approach. Generally, employees don't speak to customers or make eye contact unless they are chased or cornered. Actually, this does not offend me, because I usually prefer not to be disturbed or monitored by salespeople hungry for a sale. Nevertheless, I understand how the Fry's approach to customer service might be percieved negatively by some.

As a counter-point to the above paragraph, Per Capita, Fry's employees seem to have a solid knowledge of the products which they sell, unlike the folks who you would discover at Best Buy or Wal-Mart. If you ask one a question, you will probably find the answer satisfactory. Overall, Fry's remains one of my favorite venues in the region.

  • Pros: Absolutely Massive Selection, In-Store Diner
  • Cons: Unique Customer Service Approach

Great store, great inventory, incredibly horrible customer service

by stellyd301 at Citysearch

Wow, what a store. It's huge. They have an amazing amount of inventory at reasonable prices. Yet, the service is absolutely horrible.

I have been looking for plasma tvs. I recently went to the store for a second time to look around. The first time I went there, the customer service was horrible. The last time I went there, which was one week later, the service was even worse. Let me explain:

I walked around looking for help. There were three young women and two men at the desk by the tv department. Four of the five people looked at me and said nothing. We're talking minutes here people. The three women continued to ignore me and talk about their personal life and sort of look busy at the same time. The one guy who was working hard and taking care of another customer was the only one to acknowledge me.

Finally, to my relief, I noticed one older gentleman I had dealt with the previous visit. I was hoping he would come to my rescue. Instead, he was talking on the phone and sounded adgitated. After another minute, it was obvious he was speaking to his estranged wife (or partner?). At one point, while no one was still waiting on me he loudly and publicly told her "You'll have our son on New Years night and you'll be kissing him." Pause. He then yells, "Bulls##t, you know you will!"

I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. Who is managing this place? In fact, I think the person on the phone in the argument with his ex was the manager. Note to Fryes: Times are tough! Train your staff! Your customer service is atroucious and offfensive. If your inventory and prices were not amazing, your business would be down the tubes.

I have told several friends about this store's customer service. Buyers beware. If you can find the same item at another store for a reasonable price, avoid this store. If not, be prepared to get terrible service while you shop a huge store with great inventory. Is it worth it?

  • Pros: Huge store, reasonable prices
  • Cons: Horrible customer service

Don't go there for auto installations!!

by seonita at Citysearch

Whatever you, don't ever go to Fry's to get your electronic equipment installed in your car. They don't know what they're doing. Frys installed an alarm system in my car and they took more than 12 hours when they told me it would take 4. Not only that, they forgot to install the alarms for my 2 back doors. They also made some interior damages to my new car. So careless. My alarm is always messing up and I had to go back four times because they couldn't get it right the first 3 times. It doesn't take much to become an auto installer; all you have to do is take a stupid written test and pass to get a license. The store has very poor customer service, and the reps don't even know their own products. Go somewhere else, I would pay a little more and not suffer the headaches I had with these people.

  • Pros: Lots of computer products
  • Cons: poor customer service, very unreliable staff
