They sell puppies
by Mex at Citysearch
I use to frequent this store. However, and this is a BIG however, they sell puppies. Being in the dog business I know that dogs in pet stores or online are the biggest promoters of puppy mills. And puppy mills mean cruelty and dogs with medical and socialization problems. Even if they say they have papers, this can be falsified. I cannot stand by ANY store that sells dogs. They should stick to what they do best. Birds, fish, and amphibians. I use to love this store. Sorry.
Awesome pets store

I've been in this store many times and bought a few different pets from them. I've always found them to be highly knowledgeable, always willing to help me with my questions and incredibly loving to my animal's when I bring them in for a visit. They have a great array of fish, birds, reptiles, puppies and so many more. All of the animal's are well cared for and the staff takes great pride in caring for them. If you're looking for a new member of the family, go to Kevin and Sean's A Place for Pets you won't be disappointed.
I really like this place! Best zebra finches in town.

I'm glad to have this pet store so close to home. I've been a licensed veterinary technician for almost 30 years and it pleases me to see the animals so well cared for. I usually head for the birds first and I like to just stand and watch them. The are so healthy and active and the cages are alway neat and clean. They carry the best selection of zebra finches within a 15 mile radius. I know, I've checked them all out. I've gotten all my more unusual zebras from them. I had spent the better part of the summer trying to find a pair of fawns and a pair of pure whites - they special ordered them for me and I had them for my collection within a couple of weeks. Now that's service! I also got my chestnut-flanked whites, a cream and a lightback from them and I've seen that they have blackcheeks occasionally.
Most visits I'll cruise around all the aisles and see what's new. The staff is very helpful and I particularly like looking at the display aquarium by the checkout counter. That makes waiting in line entertaining.
If you live in the Burien area and need a good local pet store, visit A Place for Pets!
Okay store but has its problems

Well firstly I should probably interject that I have a lot of experience with animals, primarily exotics, and have personally worked in four pet stores in the last eight years. (This one not being one of those four)
Place For Pets doesn't smell, which is always good, and does carry a decent variety of both pets and pet supplies. The store has always been clean when I have visited. The animals were in appropriate habitats under the correct conditions that their species dictated; all this I can appreciate.
However I have a particular problem with the staff. I fancy myself a polite and personable person but I can't exactly say the same for all of the staffers I have encountered there. Not to say they are ALL stand-offish but I did not feel welcomed as a customer when engaged in conversation.
One girl just sort of blinked at me blankly and made a neutral shrugging motion when I asked a question. Another was just far too engaged with petting a customer's puppy and chatting to help me. Further more, when I did need assistance she acted like I was inconveniencing her. She came off as rather useless to me, as she didn't appear to know anything anyway.
As for the one of two owners I dealt with, Kevin, I was not impressed in the least. As a business man that interfaces daily with the public, he should know how to be more personable and have better customer service skills. He spoke to me with a condescending air and seemed to really not take me serious at all.
He talked down to me about the exotic animal we were discussing and even though I was obviously experienced with the type of animal, his attitude of "Oh you're just another young girl that doesn't know what she's talking about at all" persisted.
I am young and a female and I felt he brushed me off because of it. I'm not trying to harp a sexist tone here, that's actually the first time I feel that's ever happened. But aside from poor customer relations, it's a dandy store.
- Pros: Good variety, clean, seem always stocked up.
- Cons: Unprofessional employees that lean towards the rude side

Happy teachers and students loved this pet store for coming to their school to talked about animals. The speaker from the pet store was great and full of interesting information. We all wanted to go see this amazing store after the school visit. The pets that were brought looked happy and healthy. #1 Pet Store in my book!
- Pros: Great variety of healthy pets
- Cons: none I could tell
