What Our Expert Scouts Say

Theo Chocolate

If you love chocolate (and who doesn't?) a visit here is a must. A great showroom to show off and sample all of their fair trade chocolate. You're almost guaranteed to walk out of here with more chocolate than you had anticipated.

Love the mission of this sweet spot, focusing on chocolate made with fair trade cocoa beans. There's also a neat partnership with FareStart students, launched in 2012, these savory caramels are a collaboration between veteran chocolatiers and the aspiring chefs from the innovative program designed to help get people off the street and into a job. Go visit the Fremont factory and take a tour. It might make you love chocolate even more when you learn the care that goes into making it. Cool!

Head to the store to pick up treats & locally made gifts & to sample their chocolate. And, if you have time, take their factory tour to see the whole chocolate-making process.

Ruh roh. I'm here practically monthly and apparently have completely forgotten, every single time, over several years now, to write a review. Such a dolt I am (boy, that sounded a bit Yoda-ish).

I love it here. I could simply enter the door to the magic that is Theo, inhale, and be blissfully happy with a silly-ass grin on my face for a week. Better than coffee! And the chocolate is divine. Even though I live less than three miles away I will still order direct from them just to be sure I have my Theo fix in case I can't get around to, you know, actually making it out of my house. Yes, it is completely worth it.

Also, love the tours they give. The bean-to-bar education (not to mention the cocoa-infused contact high) you receive is top-notch and very informative. And of course, there are samples throughout the tour! I include this on my regular "entertain the Seattle tourists" route when friends and family are in town.

Did I mention I love it here? Keep up the great, cocoalicious work, Theo.

Chocolate is Cool!!. Very down-to-earth, fun tour. Enthusiatic tour guide took a small group of us step-by-step through the chocolate making process. You see every machine, find out how it works, and have the different tastes of chocolate explained. It also gives a good perspective on the differences between their process and practices and why fair trade and organic is important. There were so many chocolate and confections samples I felt a little sick afterwards. The chocolate they make is very special and different-- I especially liked the chai bar, and if you like strange flavors you can't do better than coconut-curry. Remember to call first (especially on weekends) to schedule the tour.

Amazing chocolate experience!. After attending a fabulous Chocolatada (an evening of sweet and savory food and drink by a fabulous chef!) I can't stop talking about Theo to everyone I meet. With a dedicated focus on organic and fair trade cocoa, our tour guide Pamela had a passion, play and contagious excitement for everything cocoa. Ive never had a tour be so much fun, so informative and so delicious all at once!

Seattle has been known for coffee and grunge for years. I think Theo is at the head of the next big thing!

Forget Willy Wonka--delicious smells emanate from this organic, free-trade chocolate factory in the heart of Fremont.. In Short
Hidden inside the historic Red Hook Brewery Building, this heavenly factory does it all; from roasting the cocoa beans to hand-forging their truffle-like "confections." The tour, a crash course in chocolate engineering, illustrates how a cocoa bean becomes a chocolate bar--and includes a sample, naturally. The on-site store features a selection of Theo's chocolates, including their bars and "confections" with offbeat flavors like chai, chipotle spice and earl grey.
