Editorial Review for Serious Pie – by Anna Roth

The Scene
This comfortable space keeps things cozy by only offering a limited number of shared wooden tables for patrons lucky enough to snag a seat. Diners can watch the inner workings of the Dahlia Bakery through a wall of glass or observe chefs prepare their pizzas in the open kitchen. The exposed wood beam ceiling and wrought-iron candle chandeliers cast a romantic glow over the entire scene.

The Food
The oblong, eight-slice pizzas come loaded with gourmet toppings--one featuring a perfect blend of barely spicy cherry bomb peppers and house-made sweet fennel sausage is a favorite, while the traditional house mozzarella and cheese variety satisfies. The crust is thin, chewy and, at times, tastes almost sweet. Starters and desserts change depending on what's in season but are suitably light; most diners order a large green salad, which comes in a large bowl perfect for sharing.

We enjoyed dinner here tonight. Servings for appetizer weren't very large but were very yummy. Pizza was good. I was kind of sad there wasn't more of a selection on the menu but it was fun to try something new and for dessert we ordered canolli which was the very best part of dinner if you ask me. I think the hot pepper sausage pizza was the most traditional tasting and our waitress was good.

Pros: dessert, pizza, drinks (soda)

Cons: didn't love mushroom pizza but it was ok

Cozy, warm, and friendly staff. Good service too. However, it's pretty easy to get service right when you serve pizza and beer right? I spent the better part of my college career in restauants, and learned to be a decent chef by paying attention to the meals I've seen prepared, and those that I've eaten. I'm a "foodie", and have eaten most of my meals out in the last 10 years in Seattle. I need to say that Tom Douglas can do better. I would also hope that $15 for a personal pizza would turn out to be nothing less than amazing. I found it to be simply OK. I expected more from a place with Tom Douglas's name on it, as I've been to Dahlia Lounge and Etta's enought to know what to expect. Calamari and mussel app was ok... .should be hot not cold though, and only get the Egg Pizza if you're in the mood for bacon, eggs and toast (a small amount off bacon flavored fat, and an egg over olive oil on a super thin crust. The other pizza we had was also "simply ok", but we had to add copacolla to it to get a decent flavor from it. I took what I had left home, and just couldn't get myself to eat it the next day. I threw it away this morning. $75 for 2 people.... should have gone to Dahlia's or Etta's if I wanted to be smiling as I left the building. Overall, I'm disapointed.

Pros: Decent appetizers

Cons: overpriced and little flavor
