In Short – Minimal decor like exposed brick walls and simple black shelves provide a classy backdrop to the six racks of well-hung clothing. The modern outfits offered connote urban sophistication--this is where women come to purchase a sophisticated cashmere sweater or simple-yet-elegant spring coat, not a throwaway outfit for date night. Two extra-large dressing rooms are separated by heavy-duty brown curtains. Designers include ports 1961, Elijah, Nicholas K and Jarbo.

Editor's Tips

Know Before You Go:
There's a small but mighty selection of denim, including Habitual, Stitches and local brand Pine IV.
Save Money:
Since the boutique is small, end-of-season sales are often a lot to get out old merchandise. Sign up for the mailing list at the front counter to be informed of sales.
The Extras:
Check out more Ballard shopping.

Great little shop--tall ladies, take note!

by artistamy at Citysearch

I heard about Merge through my husband's co worker (who always gives me tips on where to find long enough sleeves as we are both tall). I have to say, Merge is my guilty pleasure! For one, I can wear most of what is sold there, even at 6'1"!! Patricia stocks some very creative designers (my favorite is Elijah) and gives such a personal service while you shop--makes you feel like a queen. Every piece I've purchased from Merge has enhanced my wardrobe, and I highly recommend this wonderful little shop.

  • Pros: Many items are nice and long--great for tall women!
  • Cons: Hard for those on a budget.

One stylish place, one stylish diva...

by scorpion69 at Citysearch

I was fortunate to meet the owner Pat, a week or two prior to opening Merge. Being cynical in nature I laughed quietly when she said she was opening up a new boutique on Ballard Avenue. Then when I saw what she was doing, and I was sold immediately. She has created a really nice space, that caters to a woman like few others do in this city. None of the usual clutter and 'trinkity' cr-p that you find in most other shops. Sophisticated, simple, and streamlined are words I would use to describe her shop. The clothing lines she carries speak for themselves. Pieces that you could wear year in and year out, unlike the disposable stuff that you pay an arm and a leg for and wear twice... If you are looking for something unique, classic, and fun, this is the place to go... if all else, just stop in and meet one of the cooler divas in Seattle!!!!

  • Pros: personal attention and service

Get yourself a little slice 'a cool...

by christineeastman at Citysearch

OK peeps, if you're shopping in the Seattle area, you really owe it to yourself to go to the quaint little town of Ballard where urban cool is alive and well with great bars, ultra hip restaurants and killer little boutiques - the newest and finest of which is MERGE. Located in one of those gorgeous historically signifiant corner brick buildings, MERGE is everything you see on the pages of fashion magazines like InStyle, Vanity Fair and the like. Added bonus...owner Patricia Wolfkill, herself a fashion designer, is there to act as your very own personal shopper. Doesn't get any better than that...go see for yourself!

  • Pros: Variety, high-end/desirable labels, access to owner
