Editorial Review for Coupage – by Anna Roth
The Scene
This open dining room is dominated by a black and white art deco mural of cocktail culture along one wall; the rest of the space is painted in muted blues. While there are white tablecloths and a significant French wine list, this is a neighborhood spot where locals hunker down in one of the solid booths or grab a quite bite at the long, open bar. Service is quite leisurely, sometimes to a fault.
The Food
The chef admirably experiments with French techniques on Korean ingredients, though the results aren't as bold as the combination suggests. A deconstructed bi bim bop starter is disappointingly dry, and the lemongrass vichyssoise is subtle, maybe too much so. The big-ticket item is the burger, an expensive, over-the-top--and completely delicious--indulgence of ground short rib, seared foie gras and tomato confit. Smooth house-made ice cream is a nice finish, especially the spicy/sweet chili flavor.

Coupage is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I like to go to places where I can eat food that I would never cook at home. Coupage's menu has all kinds of interesting dishes that, so far, have never disappointed. Not a restaurant for the amateur diner or the person who only goes out for decor/scene, this place is for people who come for the food.
Pros: Food, Service
Cons: None

The food was sooo slow. But that's not nearly the issue (who doesn't love a leisurely meal?) but the service was outright rude. In my youth I used to wait tables, and could not believe that no one would bother to refill our drinks (which were expensive, trust me) even when they were passing by and "checking" our table and those around us. Must have noticed how hungry and sober we were getting, so the only answer is shear laziness or some sort of 'customer-loathing'. The cost of the meal was some sort of joke on us that we would spend such money to be treated so poorly. Seattle has so many good restaurants, please don't waste your time and money.
Pros: The neighborhood is very cute
Cons: This restaurant should not be in it.
