Superb Food. Coupage is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I like to go to places where I can eat food that I would never cook at home. Coupage's menu has all kinds of interesting dishes that, so far, have never disappointed. Not a restaurant for the amateur diner or the person who only goes out for decor/scene, this place is for people who come for the food.

Moral imperative to avoid this place. The food was sooo slow. But that's not nearly the issue (who doesn't love a leisurely meal?) but the service was outright rude. In my youth I used to wait tables, and could not believe that no one would bother to refill our drinks (which were expensive, trust me) even when they were passing by and "checking" our table and those around us. Must have noticed how hungry and sober we were getting, so the only answer is shear laziness or some sort of 'customer-loathing'. The cost of the meal was some sort of joke on us that we would spend such money to be treated so poorly. Seattle has so many good restaurants, please don't waste your time and money.

A great place for a date. My wife and I hav been going to Coupage since it first opened. We love it because it has a relaxed atmosphere where most of the patrons are there to enjoy good conversation and a great meal. The staff is attentive and polite but never hasty. The food is excellent, somewhat complex and very carefully prepared. That takes time depending on what you order.

n response to the last review posted by Larry, I must tell a different side of the story. My wife and I happened to be there the night of that birthday party. Children were running around the restaurant wearing flashing rings and it was distracting to all the other patrons. They had taken over the restaurant. I don't doubt their food didn't arrive in a timely manner for them as there were twelve people, including four children. Pulling together twelve or so entrees timing them just so that they all come out at the same time isn't easy; even for an very experienced and talented chef like Tom Hurley. Oh, and let's not forget that Coupage is participating in the 30 for $30 promotion and the restaurant was completely booked.

The seen made by what I as the husband and wife team was sufficient to have the whole restaurnat buzzing. They were refusing to pay for the dinner and drinks, of which I can only assume the wife had had more than her fair share. Once they finally left, after the wife refused to take the food she insisted be packaged up to go and stepped into the kitchen uninvited to yell at the staff, did normalcy return to this wonderful restaurant.

Some advice for dinners making reservations for large parties:

1. Inquire whether they are fully booked as it will impact how quickly you can expect to be served your food.

2. If you're on a tight timeline then inform the restaurant, they may to make accommodations and accellarate the process for you.

3. Always inform the restaurant that it's a birthday party, that you're brining children AND a birthday cake.

Go to Coupage. It's great.

Two-hour wait for food that never came. Coupage is one of those trendy places in the European bistro style. Our party of eight adults and four well-behaved children had a six-o?clock reservation for my daughter?s 39th birthday. The place was virtually empty, and we placed our orders to the one waiter working that night. Since the children were hungry, my son-in-law, our host, ordered from the pricey a-la-carte menu a $39 ?beef platter? and a $28 hamburger (yes, $28). For the adults, he ordered the ?prix fixe? menu ($30 per person) and bottles of Veuve Cliquot. The kids? food never came. We did get little slices of bread and butter. After an hour, one food item did eventually show up, our soup, which was good, but on an empty stomach and one round of drinks we had to beg from the teen-aged water server, anything would taste good. After two hours and many false assurances from Coupage?s lone waiter that our food was coming, we left after our host paid the $500 bill with complaints about the lousy service, and to insults from the owner (?we didn?t expect a children?s birthday party?) . We went to a place nearby for pizza. I wanted to go back to the Coupage and hand out slices to the passive, starving patrons who by then filled the place. My main regret is not getting to see what a $28 hamburger looks like. I suspect there?s many a patron of Coupage who has ordered that dish and still wonders the same thing.

Dissapointing. The highlight of the evening - Fois Gras! That was amazing - pricey though at $28 for an appetizer. Everything else was definetely a dissapointment. I ordered the spicy salad - nothing special there, and the duck. The skin of the duck was very crisp and the inside all dark meat - very dry. We also ordered the pairing wines with our meal. 2 out of 3 wines came about 10 minutes after our meal arrived. Service was very inattentive. We needed to track down another server after waiting almost 30 minutes for our waiter to take our bill. Ambiance was ok. I was expecting more of a korean flare to our dishes but didn't see it at all.
