Crab and shrimp tater tots? Yes please. Also to some of the city's finest fried chicken, greens and gravy, "rainbow" caviar, approachable wine list and even a lengthy "mocktail" menu.
Huge fan of the Pike Place Market destination restaurant and chef de cuisine Anthony Polizzi's clever renditions of classics. Don't miss the Dungeness crab tostada if it's offered. During the summer months, the kitchen does beautiful things to veggies. A beet tartare with blue cheese was beautiful to behold and even better to taste. For dessert? Two words: Pecan Pie!
Whether you're shopping in the market or not, this is one of the best spots to go when you want a big ol' plate of comfort food. The menu tilts towards Southern fare, but this is some of Seattle's best seafood, locally sourced, with a long list of Washington wines to match. The decor is cheery and will put you right at ease. This is Seattle's version of a modern diner.
Great place for a big group dinner. We had reservations for a group of 12, and they set up a long table in the back corner. Nice view, the restaurant was already hoppin', the waitstaff were very good. This was my 3rd visit to Steelhead Diner, and I sure wasn't disappointed. We ordered tons of food and cocktails and wine--everything was fabulous. The trout was so good, the crispy smelt fantastic, the calf's liver pungently divine, the poutine was fun in the mouth, the mussels divine. My favorite cocktail was General Practicioner :) A really fun place for a group dinner. Great place for out of town guests as well, since the menu is quite large and varied, and the food is a bit different--a kind of Northwest/Cajun comfort food theme that really works.
wow. what a find. I was preparing for an important business dinner and needed to impress and this was it. The food had an interesting southern style and I was very pleased. The atmosphere was very Seattle, but not overwhelming. I will continue to return
Noisy Mecca for Deep Fried foods with inexperienced waitstaff. Looking for a satisfying, healthful meal? This is not the place to go. A recent visit in which one in our party was trying to avoid added sugar, deep fried/breaded foods, and not commit to a hugely overpriced entree, was a recipe for disaster: the "special" non-alcoholic cocktail claiming to be nothing but apple cider and lemon juice, was actually a hideously sweet concoction of sweetened apple juice and SOUR MIX, loaded with high-fructose corn syrup. We were still cheerful when expecting our garlic sauteed greens with Pancetta, which was so salty as to be inedible, although tasty, and cooked correctly. Any chef who understands the saltiness of Pancetta, would have been much more judicious with the salt. Sadly, the potato latkes, which, if they are made traditionally, are pan sauteed, here resembled flattened out tater tots which had been deep fried in an oil with an unpleasant aftertaste. While the olive crusted halibut was tasty, the 1/2 portion was very small for the price-- shame on them! Hard to think of a reason to return.
Great Service - Why Did it Take Me So Long to Venture Here?.
I think I may have walked past the steelhead a million times and didn't realize what it was - if you haven't been this is a gorgeous restaurant (diner in the front and fine dining in the back/side) on the inside with really amazing service. Our waiter was just attentive enough not to be annoying, water glass full, wine recommendations perfect, and we loved all of our menu choices.
Naughty but delicious - deep fried Beecher cheese curds!
Also recommend: the creme brulee infused with lavendar and then the mousse (with a homemade marshmallow)
Went there for 30 for 30 most recently and while some restaurants are snooty about 30/30 - this place was very friendly and excited for new diners to come in and see what they are all about. I would definitely recommend this for visitors to Seattle as well - great atmosphere and cool views from the private dining room.
Still working out the kinks.... We made reservations on a Saturday night and were seated over 30 minutes late. By the time we got our bread we had been there an hour. Not entirely thrilled by the menu- we ordered the salmon (interesting, but not delicious) and the lamb (pretty good). If our server hadn't been so gracious in comping our appitizers, it would have been a bust of an evening. Thought it was ok, but definitely no "wow" factor.
Nice new spot with local flavors. Just had dinner at Steelhead last night and we really loved it. We sat at the chef's table, and we were given a slice of the caviar pie from the kitchen. It took our server a while to get to us, maybe 10 minutes, but he was slammed. When he did get to us, we ordered quickly and received our drinks within minutes. The owner/chef was super nice and checked in on us. Food and drinks are delicious. Burger is great, and the salmon is wonderful! Local wine list.

My girlfriend and I were enjoying the sights of Pike Place Market, saw the Steelhead Diner and decided to give it a try. Great move!
The ambiance was lovely, with warmth, light music, and the perfect amount of lighting. After getting some drinks, we got a great seat overlooking the water. The waitress attended to us right away, answering all our questions about the food. We began with some gumbo and a crab cake. Amazing! I have literally never had better gumbo in my life, and the crab cake was excellent as well. We both immensely enjoyed our entrees. I had the fried chicken sandwich, she had the halibut. Both were outstanding, and the waitress continued to come right away with drink refills, and even a joke now and again. It was a lovely evening, and the next time we go back we'll be sure to get some dessert. A lot of fun. Highly recommended!
A Sparkling Gem in the Market.....
I've been a "regular" at Steelhead Diner since they first opened their doors in February of this year. I must say, as a 20+ yr veteran of the restaurant industry here in Seattle, that the charmingly affable Chef Kevin Davis (with the assistance of his lovely wife, Terresa, who oversees the front-of-the-house operations with grace and style) has been turning out some of the freshest, most creative and utterly delectable dishes this (somewhat professional) foodie has ever had the pleasure of eating.
Just about everything I've tried here has been amazing, although I must admit I tend to get attached to certain dishes which I then continue to order upon each return visit. Although this is a rather tasty trap to find oneself in, it usally takes the suggestion of the Chef, a fellow devoted diner or any member of the friendly and capable staff to lure me away from my "usual". Some of my very favorite dishes include (but are not limited to) the Brutus salad, Beecher's Cheese Curds, Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes (all of the seafood dishes, actually), the Gumbo, Gabe's Chili, the Fried Chicken Sandwich, the Veggie "Meatloaf", the Lemon Cake........I could go on.......
Don't let the "Diner" in the name fool you---for this is no greasy spoon! I know from doing my homework that this extremely talented chef has studied his craft both abroad and across the U.S. He creates food on an entirely different (read: elevated) plane than what is normally found in our city, and his passion for cooking comes through with every bite.
My mouth is watering just thinking about what's cooking down at the Steelhead Diner, and I feel I compelled to make haste now for an impromptu lunch down at the Market with Kevin and his crew.....
Lovely outdoor dining on patio.. Romantic dinner on the patio was great for my wife's birthday. Food was excellent. Service was all we could ask for.
Attentive and Stylish. Service is a big part of dining out and Steelhead delivers; from reception, to bartenders and wait staff. However, the direction and execution of the seafood (halibut and salmon) is overdone. I woulnd't consider it truly Northwest! Perhaps too much international or southern influence. Stylish? Absolutely; but missed it's mark for being in a prime Pike Place Market location.
