Editorial Review for Eat Local – by Jill Lightner

In Short
Combining the convenience of takeout with the soothed conscience of a trip to the farmers market, these pre-made dishes sourced from local, organic ingredients appeal to every taste. From Hemper's bacon quiche to chard laced with béchamel and gruyere to richly-sauced beef short ribs, the menu aims to please palates educated in top restaurants. Numerous vegetarian options are available, and portion size ranges from single-serving to six. A small selection of rich low-sugar desserts is included.

Insider Tips

Save Money

The portions are generous, and priced accordingly. Be realistic about how much food is needed---some single-servings work for two; some two-person side dishes provide enough for four.

Know Before oOu Go

Everything is frozen and packed into foil trays for reheating. Check each package before leaving, to confirm the directions are clear. Occasionally, a label goes missing and it's far easier to fix the problem on the spot.

The Extras

Pickles, condiments, Tall Grass Bakery bread, honey, chocolate, local pottery and bottled lemonade are also available, providing the perfect hostess gift or rounding off the weekend picnic menu.

I just made my second purchase this week! The food is really good - love the fact it is local and organic. It is super easy to prepare. The service is outstanding - the staff is extremly friendly and eager to help. They seem passionate about what they are doing - that is really great to experience!

My Partner and I love Eat Local. Even our two year old daughter loves it! Our current favorite is a chick pea and wild rice dish that is spicy and delicious. We also love the Nikki McClure art work, and the fact that there is a community meeting room available upstairs. Everything about this place is very well done, and promotes sustainable living and a focus on community. The owner is also very friendly and personable. I highly reccommend this store.

Pros: Great organic food, nice artwork and pottery, great friendly owner, supports local business
