Go ahead. Put yourself in her hands.. Nancy Cole, store owner and stylist, has a great sense for what kind of cut works for a person based on their face shape, type of hair, body type. I went in knowing I needed a change, but was a bit psychologically attached to my long hair, which wasn't very flattering on me. Nancy gave me the perfect pixi, that actually compliments the shape of my head, bone structure and body type. It is wonderful to go to a stylist who is so knowledgeable, honest, and positive. She's a real professional.

Creative, beautiful, flattering color and cut. I have naturally dark brown hair and have been putting in honey blond highlights for 15 years. I have been to all of the top salons in Seattle and haven't been overly impressed with anyone. When I met Nancy, she was friendly, but opinionated. She didn't love my haircolor and that was tough to hear. She told me to think about going red instead as it would compliment my coloring and would look, well, hot. So, I put on my big girl pants and went for it and I am SO THANKFUL I did. My overall haircolor is a gorgeous red with subtle strawberry/gold highlights - hard to explain, but awesome. My husband loves it and I've been complimented in the grocery store by strangers. Thanks for guiding me in the right direction Nancy - great cut, great products, great company, great salon!

What a blessing!. I loved this place the moment I stepped in. The energy in the salon is uplifting and calming; the decor, simple with beautiful seasonal flower arrangements. Nancy, the owner is a talented, versatile, committed, passionate and humble soul. I so enjoy our interactions. None of my past hair stylists has taken as much care and involvement in helping me choose a hair style that would suit not just my face, but also my personality. I had always been skeptical about hair coloring, but when I saw the superior quality products she uses (containing non-toxic, organic ingredients), my hesitation and skepticism vanished. My hair feels and smells so good after a visit there! Thank you Nancy, for always taking the time to ensure that the color and cut are perfect. I applaud your meticulousness! Your salon is an answer to my prayer for an organic, non-toxic, ecology friendly experience for which I don't have to drive very far :-)

Greenwood Salon is a diamond in the rough. I love the Shampoo Bar, Nancy always does a great job on my hair. My entire family only goes to her and everyone loves her work. She's a real neighbor--I had a great idea for a Christmas present for my mom, Nancy came in on Christmas eve to help me wrap the present and get it to mom on time. She suggested what shampoos and products to put in the gift basket, she even had the plastic and ribbon handy too!

She goes out of her way to do a good job, and I come back again and again. The location makes it a little hard to spot, but it's right next to the "Talking Fish" (and the infamous fish lady next door). Complete with a charming decor and quality organic products, I always feel right at home. And, I've never had a problem making an appointment within days of when I call, always in the same week, unlike some other salons I've tried.

Never had so many compliments on my color!. I found Salon Bar when I was looking for a salon where I could get a cut and color without leaving with a sinus headache and irritated eyes. I was very pleased to find that Shampoo Bar- offering ammonia-free color - that was great. But beyond the absence of toxic chemicals, Nancy does a terrific job with color and highlights - I've never had so many compliments on my color! The location is convenient, the salon is down to earth. Nancy's made the atmosphere relaxing and inviting (always has a cup of tea or water ready), an electic selection of music (I love it that I never know what i'll hear next). Nancy's a gentle soul, her years of experience show, and you know you're in good hands.

Skilled Haircolorist!. Nancy's the best. I can always count on consistent, great color and highlights as well as an expert cut. I love the ammonia-free color and relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere at the Shampoo Bar. Nancy always takes time to ask what you want and if you're not exactly sure don't stress – you're in good hands!

Years of great cuts!. I know where I will always receive a well formed hair cut. The Shampoo Bar is a relaxing place to regain natural beauty.

With hair that has determination of its own, Nancy always successfully tames it. When I am able to go visit Nancy, it is like therapy. I do not like to use chemicals on my hair, and I know that I can trust Nancy's expertise in dealing with my hair.

I have followed Nancy for years now, and I am so happy that she now has a place of her own on Greenwood Ave N.. She now can concentrate on applying products she trusts. Let Nancy take care of your hair.

Lovely neighborhood shop. I've been going to Nancy's cozy spot for years now. My daughter got her waist length hair cut short for a donation promotion at the shop, and has loved going back ever since—"I love my haircut, Mom. It makes me look like I'm 8!" She was 7 at the time. Very little throws Nancy—even a second grader bringing in a picture of her avatar's hair to emulate. (Mom vetoed the purple...thanks for supporting me on that one, Nancy!)

Now my mother is regular. I told her she's worth the time and money that a good haircut costs. We make it a girl's day out, chat in the shop, have tea and comment on the magazine offerings...and we always come out relaxed and refreshed with the wonderful organic hair treatments.

My nieces and sister also take Nancy their 'problem hair' issues, and come out smiling.

Thanks for being in my neighborhood!

Sub Par Highlighting by the Owner. I decided to try Shampoo Bar because it is one of only a handful of Seattle area salons using ammonia free haircolor (c'mon uber-green Seattle, you'd think more salons would catch on!). Traditional hair color dries out my thinm wavy hair and requires me to do multiple deep conditioning sessions a week or else risk brittle, straw like strands. While I loved my stylist at Seven in Bellevue, I made an appointment with Nancy at the Shampoo Bar in hopes that ammonia free color would not dry my hair out. Upon arrival at the salon I almost canceled my appointment as the salon is in a dingy building in a not so good area of town near Aurora. However, upon walking inside the salon is beautiful and clean. It has the feel of a small town salon. Now for the actual color treatment...The Good news: the hair color did not dry my hair out and I am now a believer that ammonia free hair color is in fact gentler and better for the hair. Now for the Bad news: Nancy (who is the owner of the salon) did a terrible job of highlighting my hair, so much so that I had to have her re-do a couple of large clown like streaks on the top of my head. I asked her for very natural looking, thinly placed streaks of brown and dark blonde highlights, and when my hair ended up with two thick brassy yellow streaks on top I politely insisted she fix the problem. To her credit she re-did the botched sections even though she stubbornly tried to talk me out of it (I was not going to leave without her fixing it - the streaks looked that bad!). Once Nancy fixed the bad color sections the overall color job was good in terms of vibrancy and shade, but the placement of the highlights was anything but the natural look I had asked for. It was sloppy and looked like it was done by a student and not someone claiming to have 20 years of experience. Bottom line: while this salon is a testament to the efficacy of ammonia free haircolor, the owner's color skills are sub par at best. If you like highlights that are very chunky, this may be the place for you. But if you like a more natural look I highly advise you to stay away!

Nancy is the best!!!. When I found Shampoo Bar I had been going to another organic salon downtown and was just not happy with my hair. I had recently gone from dark auburn to a lighter shade of red and my hair ended up looking very unnatural and had a yellow tint to it. It had also been damaged by the lightening process and was rough and unruly. Nancy really took her time assessing the problems I was having with my hair and then worked her magic! After just one visit, thanks to her talent and the great products she uses, not only was the color corrected and blended perfectly, my hair was super soft and shiny, too! She also gave me a great cut that was easy to work with. Since then I have not been disappointed with anything that Nancy does to my hair. It continues to be very natural looking, soft and manageable. The best part is getting stopped by strangers and complimented on my hair color! The salon itself is a cozy little hideaway that is very unpretentious and comfortable. There is also a nice selection of yummy smelling, wonderful organic and non toxic products to choose from. I highly recommend Nancy and Shampoo Bar! You will leave happy and looking beautiful!!
