Editorial Review for Betty Restaurant and Bar – by Anna Roth
In Short
The interior's all earth tones and clattering surfaces but it's not the details that matter--the overarching Big City, out-to-dinner atmosphere is what draws the crowds back. Like its sister restaurant, Betty has perfected the art of being everything to everyone: First dates and meet-the-parents dinners will be equally at home. The menu focuses on classic, comforting bistro dishes using seasonal ingredients, such as risotto with peas and morels and roast chicken with spring asparagus.

We sat at the bar and it was really great to watch them cook. the service was impeccable, the wine was fabulous. The avocado/prawn crostini was FANTASTIC, the lasagna was just OK. I thought it was a bit overpriced. It's worth trying a couple times, or for drinks at the bar, but I probably won't set out to go again.

I made a reservation to take my BFF out to dinner for her bday at Betty last night. Maybe I was in a great mood because of the sunshine and the fact that I found an amazing parking space next to the restaurant but I had a lovely time at Betty. We really wanted to try everything on the menu and if I had a larger expense account, I would have! However, we decided to share the shrimp and avacado crostini, clams and chorizo and the steak frites. Everything was prepared really well. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and they were huge! I never would have thought to pair them with the buttery avacado and tomato jam but it was a perfect summer starter. The clams and chorizo came in a delicious broth and they kept bringing bread for us to sop it up with. And then came the steak. It was a larger portion than I had anticipated. Though there was more fatty bits than I would have liked, the mustardy gravy and the ginormo pile of frites rounded out the plate nicely. As for the general ambiance, my friend commented that Betty might be a depressing place to be in the winter, with the slate grey walls and the industrial accents. The waitress seemed a bit awkward but she was knowledgeable. I was half impressed, half weary about the little bowl of sea salt on each table. Whose fingers have been in there? It looked okay- and it's just salt. Anyway, we were stuffed when we left and we had a good time. I hope you all have the same experience I did.
Pros: Tastiness
Cons: Greyness
