What People Are Saying About In the Bowl

In Short – Generous portions of noodles, salads and curries are finished off with crisply fresh vegetables and a choice of soy-based meats. The variety is impressive: fresh or fried tofu, or soy versions of prawns, duck, chicken and beef. With the rich flavors of garlic, ginger, shitake mushrooms and chiles, omnivorous eaters won't miss a thing. The staff hustles to keep up with the crowd, but a busy takeout business can sometimes cause delays for those at the tables.

Editor's Tips

Parking:
Street parking is tough on this stretch of Capitol Hill, but the restaurant will validate for the parking lot across the street at Starbuck's.
Know Before You Go:
This is an entirely vegetarian restaurant, and all meat, poultry and seafood are made from soy.
Save Time:
This small spot is packed to capacity during weekday lunches; call ahead for takeout if time is an issue.
The Extras:
Delivery is available to a limited area during extended lunch and dinner hours every day. There is a $20 pre-tax minimum for delivered orders.

So Delicious!

by A Scott at Citysearch

I love this place! Everything on the menu is vegan, but you wouldn't know it. I've tried so many new items, and they're all fantastic. But I always go back to the Basil Basil. Of their soy meats, beef is my favorite, but they're all convincing. Apparently a vegetarian friend of mine took her boyfriend here several times before he knew his chicken wasn't chicken. But even without the delicious mock meat, these dishes are to die for. Everything is on the spicier side of life, so knock a star off your usual order.

  • Pros: Amazing food!

Delicious even for non-vegetarians, as long as you're patient

by ginnielizz at Citysearch

This place just opened up recently right near our apartment, and we were thrilled. We're not vegetarians, but we enjoy the yummy fare all the same. Some pointers, though: 1) They don't have tons of space or a very good layout, so it can be awkward and cramped at best. It can take a while to get a table if they're really busy. 2) The star system there is somehow WAY spicier than other pan-Asian places -- I normally go for the top number of stars for any dish, and their four out of five dishes have me sweating and tearing up (and this was the consensus by my whole dining party, not just me). Definitely err on the side of mild. 3) They theoretically will deliver with a $20 minimum, but we've never once managed to get through on either of the phone numbers that they post. So for whatever reason, there's that. Still, mega-yummy stuff, funny cute menu language, and a great selection of teas along with great and extensive food options. They'll customize like crazy for you, and all the fake animal proteins are equally yummy, if not entirely authentic. As someone mentioned, they have free dessert -- some sort of rice and/or black bean pudding with coconut milk. Normally rice-based desserts gross me out, but this stuff is actually quite nice -- nicer than it looks. And hey, can't beat the price. I'm only giving the place four stars instead of five because of the atrocious ambiance/space constraints and the impossibly elusive delivery promise. Oh yeah, and the chemical burn their four-star spicy noodles gave me. Worth it, though.

  • Pros: Great cheap food, lots of options, free dessert
  • Cons: Spicier than you'd expect, lame ambiance, no one answers phone for delivery

Great food cheap!

by ang1278 at Citysearch

This place rocks! I am not a vegetarian but this is one of my favorite spots! The prices are beyond reasonable for the amount and quality of the food. Dessert comes with each meal and I am not sure what it is exactly but it is delicous!

  • Pros: The food and the prices are great!
  • Cons: Its tiny! Sometimes you are at a table with people you don't know.

Worth the wait

by sissybar at Citysearch

This place gets packed for dinner...we waited about 15 minutes on a Sunday night. But it was worth it -- the food was great. I'd recommend the Pad Thai. Nice, cozy atmosphere, too.

  • Pros: Good food, good atmosphere, good prices
  • Cons: A short wait if busy
