In Short
Part bar, part coffee shop, and all restaurant--this casual French bistro on Capitol Hill's 12th Ave serves up cheap food to the masses at (almost) all hours of the day. There are dualities everywhere: Sharp lime green tables frame the whimsy of the blue paisley walls, under rustic vaulted ceilings housing a room full of an equally eclectic crowd. From hipsters parking their fixies out front for a quick bite to Madison Park lunching ladies enjoying a bottle of wine at 11am, Presse has something to delight everyone--from picky eaters to snobby ones. Specialties include the greasy cheesy croque madame (the French predecessor to the American grilled cheese), just-crispy-enough pommes frites, and a simple $4 salad speckled with hazelnuts you can't get anywhere else.

i love presse! I love Presse! The mussels, the sardine salad, the rillette, the cold chicken! I can't get enough. The food follows the seasons and always hits its mark! And whoever that blue-eyed hostess is, I'm sweet on her.

My husband and I came to Cafe Presse for brunch and left with satisfied stomachs and planning when we could come back. The Croque Monsieur was delicious and Pan au Chocolat hit the spot. Well made espresso and good service made the experience complete.

I've been to Cafe Presse twice for dinner in the past month. I love the cozy, warm interior and the friendly, relaxed staff. You feel like you could linger for hours just like in France! The portions are generous, delicious, and the prices reasonable - especially the wine list.
