What People Are Saying About Artemis

In Short – Tucked into a residential street on northwest Capitol Hill, the casually elegant space welcomes the neighbors with an approachable menu and plenty of drink specials. Tasty hummus might require an extra plate of pita to do it full justice, but the fried cauliflower needs nothing but its tender, crispy self to achieve perfection. Lots of sharable plates and classic Mediterranean dishes make this simple café a perfect spot for a glass of wine and late-night snacking with friends.
Fabulous for a lingering dinner with friends

The only reason they didn't get a 5 is because parking is horrible and they put too many peanuts on the chocolate tart.
Went with a group for a friend's birthday and it was fabulous. The waitstaff was attentive and very helpful. The food was delicious.
Highly recommend the flatbread, trout and bread pudding (comes with homemade cinnamon ice cream, wow!). The bar mixes a seriously strong drink, what more do you need? I wish you were in my neighborhood!
- Pros: food was great, service was great
- Cons: parking is horrible
Seattle's Best-Kept Secret

I live on Capitol Hill, and have always been a fan of high quality food-- though it can sometimes be difficult to find outside the downtown area for a decent price. Artemis is the exception!
I stumbled upon this restaurant one day while I was out for a run, and intrigued, returned for dinner. I ordered several dishes which were all very impressive, though all quite different from each other-- there is definitely something on the menu for everybody. My favorites include the chicken soup (not at all ordinary!) and the pork tenderloin (which was served with a butternut squash sauce and tops my list of best entrees!) The intricacy of flavors and combination of ingredients was especially noteworthy-- it is quite apparent that whoever creates the menu knows their foods & flavors!
The first time I went (about 8 months ago) I could tell that the restaurant was a bit newer; however, I was impressed by its potential and returned several times. Since my first visit, I have seen the vision and character of the restaurant come to life-- the service and experience continues to impress me!
The menu changes frequently and in addition to the food being AWESOME, the staff is attentive, the view is phenomenal, and the atmosphere is just perfect-- not fancy enough to be snobby, while remaining a cut above the rest. It seems like they feature new local wines every month or so, and they even have wine tasting days, which are very fun.
Artemis is a great restaurant and I wish they were more visible so they'd have more business-- they definitely deserve it! I love their intimate, 'locals only' feel. Next time you want to impress a date or visiting family member, skip the downtown scene and take them here instead!
- Pros: Excellent food, intimate setting, knowledgable staff for a good price
- Cons: Can be hard to find, as it is located off the main Broadway traffic in a more residential area
Horrible experience
by jakoye
Went there for a special New Year's Eve dinner. Arrived a little early and they made us wait outside in the cold while they finished setting up. Not a good start. When we got inside, the restaurant smelled like, cat p***. Perhaps it was the seafood soup they were cooking, but I can only tell you what it smelled like to me and my girlfriend.
The dinner was a disaster. Our waiter was sllllow and inattentive. Everyone in the restaurant was getting the same 5 course meal, but for some reason, we always got our courses last. In fact, we were entirely skipped when it came to the salad course! I guess they just completely forgot about us.
My soup was pedestrian at best and both our main courses were equally tepid. But the worst part was the constant waiting, especially as we watched other patrons being served courses while we were ignored. It was certainly not the experience I would've expected considering the price of the dinner.
To their credit, they ended up giving us our bottle of wine for free when we expressed our strong displeasure, but after such a horrendous experience, I will not return to this restaurant and cannot recommend it to you.
- Pros: I suppose the view is pretty good. It's hard to think of positives though.
- Cons: Incompotent service, so-so food, the odd smells...
The Details on Artemis
Happy Hour:
Premium wells, drafts and rotating small plates for $3 to $4 are available daily from 5pm to 7pm and 11pm to close.
When to Go:
Don't miss the sunset, with the perfect tourist-friendly photo shot of Lake Union and the Space Needle. It's also good for fireworks viewing on New Year's Eve and the Fourth of July.
Parking:
Expect a bit of a hunt; the cafe is tucked into a residential neighborhood and street spots are the only option unless you travel up the hill across Broadway.
Where to Sit:
The luckiest diners will get the view seats, but the front windows are fun for people-watching and the north side of the cafe has a cozy padded bench.
