Great hardware store, great service, great location
by hcanwell
This is the first time that I have posted to Citysearch, but it's absolutely called for in this case. My fiancee and I are in the process of renovating our 1902 Capitol Hill farmhouse, and the closest useful hardware store is Lowes in Ranier - far, far away.
We found out about this store about three weeks ago, and since then, it is the only hardware store I will go to unless I need lumber or drywall. I have been in about a half-dozen times. In that time, Marc and one of his employees (whose name I unfortunately don't know) have helped me work through a variety of problems that arose while installing and plumbing an in-sink dishwasher and hanging a cast-iron gate on my new fence. They suggested solutions that worked better (and in one key instance, cheaper) than the ones I had originally devised, and were able to provide me with all the hardware and tools that I needed to successfully complete both projects. The feel of the store is laid-back, but it's clean, well laid-out, and well-stocked. In fact, I'm kind of amazed at the amount of stuff they managed to get in there - but it doesn't feel cluttered or chaotic. They are also open every day, including Memorial Day, which was huge. It is, simply, an excellent, friendly hardware store, five minutes drive from my house. I hope they make a ton of money from the upswing of the South Lake Union neighborhood - they deserve to.
- Pros: Really helpful staff, well-stocked, great location, lots of street parking
- Cons: None
Great neighborhood hardware store
by seattlesam
I've lived downtown for many years, and used to frequently go to Crawford Waggie Ace Hardware on 3rd Ave until they closed 5 years ago. It's great to have a neighborhood hardware store back in the city, and I really like this place. It's warm and inviting, the staff are always helpful and friendly and despite one reviewer's comment that there are few "green" items, I've found quite a lot. My last visit they even showed me how they're only using a biodegradable plastic bag instead of regular plastic for customer shopping bags. I didn't know there were biodegradable plastic shopping bags - I think this is great! This is a great store and worth a visit if you're in need of anything hardware - they've got it all.
- Pros: friendly staff, well-organized, lots of great stuff
- Cons: none
false advertising!

Perhaps its just me, but i think there might be a bit of conflict of interest, perhaps bordering on deceitful, when the assistant manager writes a rave review of their store pretending to be a regular customer. The JENNERATOR should have disclosed her bias instead of disingenuously representing herself in attempts to generate business.
That aside, the place is OK. It has a bunch of stuff, but you can find it elsewhere for cheaper. Not to mention, they claim to be GREEN, but only have like 5 items ( i found baking soda, vinegar, simplegreen and a few others, but nothing to brag about).
