good quiet bar for a weeknight.. Located on California in West Seattle this bar is so dark from the outside it looks like it is closed causing you to have to squint to verify there are actually people inside. Inside its lite by candlelight. Perhaps this is where it gets its name. This can be appealing for a quiet night with a friend. Happy hour is often both early and late night and has a variety of options including 6$ hummus, full menu is also available. Bartender is friendly. Art is entertaining. Bathroom is not notable which seems odd for the rest of the decor. Outside seating area near the door. Street parking only.

Most interesting paintings on the walls. I've driven by this place a zillion times and finally stopped in with a friend of a drink. We arrived just in time for happy hour (10p.m.-12) but we were full from dinner so we didn't experiment with the happy hour food menu. I got a well drink which was pretty pricey. I guess I should have expected that since it does look pretty swanky.

The bartender looked like he should be working in a dive bar and was most amusing. We left after an hour, and the bartender said he hoped he hadn't done anything wrong to make us leave so early. Like I said, he was a character, and very amusing. I do like entertaining people very much!

The paintings on the wall were very interesting. One the one wall there were like 4 nudes. On another wall was the biggest portrait of the Virgin Mary that I had ever seen. Interesting choice to put those in the same bar.

Stylish spot for a night cap. A friend and I stopped in on a Friday night to grab a bite to eat before heading downtown. All tables were full but it was a short wait. I like the layout with bar height tables in the front and parallel to the actual bar and then booths and tables in the back for a cozier, more quiet area. I ordered the wedge salad which was really salty, not only the dressing but then the plethora of bacon was just over the top. With a little tweaking and a better balance of the ingredients, it could be a winner. We split the hummus which was tasty, the warm pieces of pita bread made it delicious. Highlight for me was the grilled prawns with hush puppies.

Editorial Review by Anna Roth. In Short
Small plates are the name of the game at this trendy joint right in the heart of the West Seattle Junction, which also offers big booths and low lighting, perfect for gazing at the attractive eye candy without being too obvious about it. Big TVs over the bar that usually show sports can be distracting, but are avoidable. The aforementioned small plates lean toward the comfort food end of the spectrum, with offerings like a Waygu cheeseburger, beef ribs and mac and cheese that quickly attained a legendary statu among West Seattle foodies. As far as the drinks: This is the sort of place where one orders cocktails, and the drinks menu is where the place gets really experimental, with offerings like a Prosecco Mojito or the Smokey, a discordant mix of scotch and vodka.
